any harm done ?

juss cant find time to give mi bike up

Get your BMW Dealer to carry out a full Check and Service (as for used Bike preparation). Get everything documented. Then hope for the best. You need to have your "Dealer" on your side.

As Garfield says, you may have a warranty issue. I have been over mileage on services (due to long lead times) but my dealer has been aware of this and I`ve had no issues. You need to speak to your dealer ad I would suggest you get it is a.s.a.p for a service because all manufacturers don`t mind finding excuses not to pay a warranty claim!!

As a precaution, I would have changed my oil as a minimum at service time. Clean oil means long engine life.....!!!

Hope you don`t have any issues with this.

Missed a couple of mine due to bad planning (ie setting off for a long trip just as service was coming up) and went 4,000 miles over each time.

Both times I let my dealer know (who was not overly concerned) and had the bike seviced when I got back. This was only done for warranty reasons, I had no concern over the bike NEEDING the service at the specified time. I did change the oil though before each trip.

Now the bike's out of warranty I do it all myself anyway.

Don't think you'll have done any harm to the bike but an oil and filter change wouldn't go amiss.

Based on my own experience(20 years with GSs) I would notworry too much about it - just get the oil changed when you can.

It has nothing to do with missing a service though..........

The point is that the problem was detectable at 6000 miles. It would be better to follow the service intervals and have the bike off the road for a few days, than to have the engine let go big time and have it off the road for longer. Pissquick asked why it might be bad to miss a 6k service, and I provided one

One of the reasons that BMWs are so expensive is the warranty support - for 2 years you can have nearly everything that goes wrong with the bike replaced at the drop of a hat. If you don't have the bike serviced at the proper intervals, the dealer will stop supporting you, or at least arguing the toss over work.

Anyway, not my bike, not my problem - Steptoe looks after my 1150 :thumb2

Because of long trips I missed one service by 2+k. Has not been a problem. I've a good relationship with the dealer. Warranty work has been carried out subsequent to the missed service.;)

OK thanks

booked in next week

should i put the standard zorst back on ??

full remus on at the mo

bike less than 2 yrs old

I was told by someone from Mbw,many moons ago, that the new generation (8 valve)boxer twins were designed to have 12k service intervals. The only reason that they have 6k service intervals,is that not many of the bikes do 12k in a year.

Mine has been waaaaay past the service intervals(it's been past the 12k limit afew times as well:rolleyes:)

Someone will be along shortly to prove me wrong no doubt:nenau

I wouldn't bother - many dealers fitted Remus kit from new, so there should be no hassle there at all.

Remeber that the speedo/mileage is approx 10% optimistic. So you can knock 900 miles off the total. Leaving you with a "true" mleage of 8100. :D

It would only affect your warranty if there's a problem that is directly associated with going over the service interval..IE if it seized because the oil hadn't been changed, they might argue the toss.

Otherwise, the dealer wouldn't even notice...I've also gone well over when I had a warranty and subsequently had no issues on a claim.

Oil changes in these circumstances would be wise though :)

Doesn't really help though, cos we all know BMW and the dealer will only look at the numbers on the clock. Recently had my 1200 Adventure serviced at 6,060 miles, but 17 months after it's previous service. When I queried this with the dealer his response was 'Not a problem, it only needs a 6,000 mile service'. It's all in the hands of the dealers and you need to find a good one.

Strange logic there Vern. The bike requires servicing in two dimensions - mileage and time. Thats why the service gumf in the handbook specifies stuff that must be done annually, and stuff that must be done at certain mileage intervals.

There's no reason why this approach can't accommodate a 12K mileage service interval (against the current 6K) as well as the annual servicing requirements.

Not on the 1200's, the odometer is far more accurate than on the old mechanical drive speedos on the 1100/1150's. When comparing spedo readings on my 1200 with the GPS, the over-read is only 0.3%.
