Evening all , after a break from BMW,s I have taken the plunge and bought a 2011 Gsa. It,s appears to be in fine condition and all there except for the tool kit which is missing. So can anyone tell me whats in it, in particular tools that are necessary for the basic jobs on the bike. Thanks for reading.

Think it contains a high limit credit card and a list of dealers.......

No wait, that's the LC toolkit....

You're better off making your own up from decent quality bits. There should be a list of standard tools somewhere, looking at mine is pointless, can't remember what came originally.
Sorry

The supplied tool kit isn't up to much - a oil filler cap removal tool, a couple of small torx keys, and I think thats about it. Its doesn't give you the tools to remove the wheels or do much else. TBH I don't know why they bother. I think you can buy an enhanced kit from BMW but imagine it is £££, I also think places like Nippy Normans do bike specific kits. I just chucked in a range of torx bits (T10 through to T50), some hex sockets in 8mm-19mm, and a ratchet drive, a couple screwdrivers, pliers (multitool), some spanners in the 8-17 range, and some spare nuts and bolts. I also bought a 19mm tool to undo the front axle, a plug cap puller, a longer bar for the rear wheel bolts (T50 tighten to 60nm so loosen can be effing hard if the wheel has been on a while), and a slim plug spanner although the deep 14mm socket from my Halfords socket set fits too. Any time I do jobs on the bike and I use a tool or adapt something in the garage I haven't got stashed on the bike somewhere I try to add to my bike tools at some point (but not stuff like heat guns and impact drivers).

The other tool that might be worth seeking out is an oil filter wrench. I got given a proper BMW one as compensation for them having sold me a wrong filter tool and I have to say it makes spinning a new filer off and on a breeze. In addition I have used money "saved" by not taking the bike to dealers and doing services my self to buy stuff like a GS911 diagnostic tool and a vacuum gauge. I also carry a small compressor and plugs for punctures.

So far, out on the road, I think I have got the tools out a couple of times to tighten up the bolts on the pannier frame toolbox :blast

The casual wit makes this site priceless.

Thanks for the replys and my credit cards are maxed out now. As suggested I will take from my extensive range of tools in my man shed and adapt as I go along. Looking forward to a few good runs before real winter sets in. Thanks again

I have an AA card in mine. I feel so inadequate now..........:homer
