Missing Nexus 5 phone to laptop connection

Since having Windows 8.1 my laptop doesn't see my Nexus 5 phone but it did on Winsows 8. There's a few vids on Youtube but having followed them nowt works .. I use usb cable connection.

open device manager (right click the start button)
find the device that has a yellow exclamation next to it, then uninstall it and then use the button at the top of the page that says 'scan for hardware changes'
This will normally re-install the software for the phone and assign it a drive letter.

This is a bug in W8.1 that's fairly well known..
