My uncle is in Thailand, on holiday and as yet, has not been in touch with anyone.
We are becoming increasingly concerned regarding his whereabouts.

We have reported him missing, and have tried to search the web to no avail. They say

FAMILIES SEEKING CASUALTY INFORMATION
Families seeking casualty information about family members who are foreign nationals in Thailand should deal directly with their embassies and consulates in Thailand which are directly involved in the relief effort and will be the first to be informed of any wounded or injured.

Any advise on where to search would be most gratefully received. The information above is from Nobby’s link posted on this site.

Cheers Guys
Yours hopefully
Gordon

Foreign Office Emergency number for relatives is 020 7008 0000.

ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) have an organised relative enquiry website for Thailand (but their server is currently very busy and you may experience delay).

Other than that, may now be the time to start calling somebody local?

The Bangkok Post has a growing list of useful contacts and avenues of enquiry.

Godspeed and safe.

Boundless / Iain thanks for the links. My cousin has registered with the foreign office, I have now added his name to the Red Cross missing persons list.

He was based in Bangkok (6 week winter break) but should have been in touch before now. I know that he is a keen diver and planned a few trips/ excursions.
We are unable to contact the hotel that he is staying /based in, I have phoned and e-mailed them but it seems their comms are down and they are unable to respond.

I have made contact with a friend of a friend who is living in Bangkok, he is going to check the hotel and get back to me, but they are 7 hours ahead of us and getting ready to take in the New Year so it may have to wait till the morning.

I can’t think of anything else practical to do, one of my cousins is talking about jumping on a plane?

Gordon,

There are still messages coming up on Sky etc. from people who are now able to notify loved ones here that they are safe. The problem with the delay in many notifications would appear to be lack of comms with mobiles being lost and public telephone systems being knocked out. Hopefully your uncle will turn up safe and well.

Ronno, I've done a search on sky news website and come up empty. The contact (friend of a friend) phoned me back after being round to the hotel, he has left several notes for my uncle at reception and at his room offering his mobile, which is still working, mostly. This was just before midnight, local time. The hotel was only staffed by the night porter so not able to track his movements.

My uncle and cousin stay in Crail Fife, your part of the world Ronno, and now that we have made direct contact with someone in Bangkok we are hopeful of some news in the next few hours.
It is possible that he is not aware of our concern or is just unable to get a message to us.

Thanks for the good wishes

Gordon

Alive and well.

I am happy to update this thread with the news that my relative has made contact and is alive and well.

He lost belongings including his mobile, and communications in Thailand are understandably still in an bad way.
He is now back in Bangkok attempting to get home. The rest of his story is still unclear.

Thanks again for the links and the good wishes. My thoughts are with those who are still searching for loved ones.

A happy 2005 to you all, this news was the best start for my family.

A relieved
Gordon
