I asked the same question about a year ago. I was getting concerned about zapping around on my Aprilia RSV, and getting frustrated I couldn't wring its neck without getting jailed. I got back from rides on the Aprilia often feeling let down in a strange way.

So, I "borrowed" a press-fleet GS Adv for a week from BMW, and then later did the 2-hour test ride on a standard GS from Vines in Guildford.

Needless to say I ended up buying a 51 plate GS from Vines.

The wierd thing is that the more you ride it, the more you like it. I've spent many hours just riding down teeny country lanes where the Aprilia would feel really uncomfortable, and the experience has been really pleasurable.

I ride the GS every day to work and back (heated grips & waistcoat - lovely), and then do the same routes I used to do on my Aprilia but enjoy it more even though I'm going more slowly. The GS gets maxed out though.

And yes, I've still got the Aprilia. Doesn't do much mileage any more, but I cant sell it cos it looks so horny, and every now & then I feel the need for a mega blast on it. It also gives the GS someone to talk to in the evenings. I

white soft stuff

tkc80's and boots with grip! fun in the fluffy stuff
but i did used to ride a bonnie with knobblies in the winter in my mispent youth.

not got an answer for black slippery stuff...but feel more confident on icy mornings on gs than any other bike!

another ex mille man here

traded my beautiful blue mille in for a brand new black/yellow adventure around a month ago, and have never looked back, I'm still trying to get used to a) the height of the thing when coming to a standstill, b) with a 30l tank I don't have to fill it up at every garage ( 300+ miles on the 1st tank full ), c) the fact that bouncy backroads and traffic calming measures are now entertaining!, d) my optimate plugs in a convenient socket. And as for heated grips.......mmmmmmmmmmm summer gloves and toasty hands. but so far its been superbly entertaining at sensible speeds.

The only problem I've got is it seems to be encouraging me to spend yet more money on accessories such as hugger, touratech side panels, fender extender, new bmw rallye suit, and probably a remus can and Y.......

as for dealers, the folks at Motorrad central in Glasgow have been superb and did a really good deal for me.

Im hoping to spend some time over xmas planning a few trips away for next summer......

Well, after all of the prevarification I finally bought one. Picked up my GS a little earlier this week and I'm really enjoying it.
So now I'll be able to participate in all those fun areas like...
what's my dealer like?
what shall I buy? Tobinator, Vern's stuff, y-pieces/Remus, etc, etc....

Riding it this week has been in rather less than perfect road conditions... yes, you guys are right, you can really give the sportsbike guys a fright!
Poacher turned gamekeeper really having just got rid of my R1.

Well done MD,
Your GS looks absoulutely gorgeous, if I hadn't bought the white aluminium Adventure, I definately would have gone for the graphian standard GS. Looks superb with the Adv beak:D , they definately look something else with the extra beak.
So how many miles have you clocked up now? Much more fun than the R1 eh? I myself had a 2001 FireBlade & then a BMW K1200RS rocket ship, but now I've seen the error of my ways:D , although I had an 1100GS about 3 years ago  top bike :)
HAVE FUN!
Cheers John:beerjug:
