Modem left connected

Did not terminate the modem connection and left on all night, Can anyone advise on how to drop the connection say after 2 miniute idle on the line?

Assuming you are us8ing MS Windows:


Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Internet Options

Click the "Connections" tab. Highlight your ISP connection then click "Settings". Now click "Advanced" and you will see an option to disconnect if idle for XX minutes.

Different versions of windows will have variations on the same theme.

Question - are you using an ISP where you pay by the minue? Do the sums and you'll probably find that a pay monthly with freephone dial up is a better option. And if you are one of the lucky ones who can get broadband where you live (which I'm not) then the economics of that should be looked at closely.

But whaen I checked the settings after 20 miniutes it should have disconnected? Both boxes were ticked!
