I suspect I already know the answer to this question, but I'll ask anyway!

One thing that has always annoyed me about my 2610 is that the turn-by-turn driving directions are often, er, unhelpful.

As a (made up) example, when approaching a turn, rather than saying 'turn left on A38 to Tewkesbury', it will say something like 'turn left on Rue Lane'. As there is often no indication of what the name of the road is, and possibly more than one road at the junction concerned, this is less than ideal. I think that I could have the display map scale turned up and work out which is the intended road by looking carefully at where the route actually goes, but this defeats the object of at-a-glance navigation.

Is there any way to change the way directions are provided, or is it time to finally give in and buy a Zumo!

I don't think buying a Zumo will change anything.... Try a different zoom as you said yerself.

I found a similar problem but have learned to use the Tabs especially the "distance to Turn" and the "Time to turn" tabs
The name/number of the road becomes less relevant then

Same on a zumo 550, doesn't the 2610 etc have the option of a pop up screen that shows the next turn etc in greater detail than the preset zoom level is set to?

I cannot recall if it's a setting one has to do for ones self but it will be there some where in the preferences although the instcruction does not say a specific street name there is a little zoom in map showing the route to take.

TBH I thought it was automatic, but you can zoom in on the "next turn" screen as well.

< Michael Caine voice> Not a lot of people know that.< / Michael Caine voice> :D

You just press the "Speak" button and you get the detail of the next turn at any time. Never really had a problem.

I have to say that I have never had a problem. i get a warning before the turn and then a little picture at the junction.Personally i wouldnt want the street name announced as most of the time the street name cannot readily be seen.
