Hi,
Any one here commute to London (orn any other grid locked city ...) ?

If so do you find the 1150GS a little wide at the handlebar/mirror level ? I found squeezing past transit vans and X5, ML320 difficult.

Any recommendations for different bars that improve on filtering ability, that doesn't compromise comfort ? I don't really want the bars much higher or lower.

Most of these mirrors just pop out and drop on the ground  , by the time the hapless driver has retrieved them, you're long gone! :D :D :D

London is my daily hunting area. there and back from Surry every day.
Mirrors? What mirrors? Never notice them. That may explain those scratches in the hand guards then...

The best accesory is a good and strong motocross pair of boots. Those with a steel cap at the front. They leave a lovely line on the side of those prats on 4x4.
And perfect for knocking down scooters...

Ah, don't forget the machete. For hacking pointing fingers (how rude of you...twang, goes the finger...)

Latelly, I've been using a 303 machine gun, WW 2 vintage on a RAM mount in the handlebar.
With some practice you get very good shooting pedestrian in zebra crossing's...

Yosi ! Don't give me ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure you have good quality handguards you'll be surprised what small gaps you can get a GS through.:mcgun

Use the pavement. I commute down the A1 to Apex corner and into Camden, and the temptation to use the n/s footway, southbound towards Apex is getting harder to resist.

At least two people (pint6x and cecilthecat) have fitted bars from the 1100/1150R. These are a narrower than the GS, although they fitted them for "getting down the side of the house" or "getting it in the shed" reasons.

And you wonder why you think you think you are being watched! :D

I know what you mean about the mirrors but to be honest they don't make it too bad. That said, I'm rather cautious when filtering anyway.

What has made a difference is the Hella Xenon DEs I have fitted.

all of what Yosi said!

i personally don't find the GS a problem in London. It's size (width) is made up for by the upright riding position and hence visability, and you just get used to the weight. its so well balanced that you can sit for hours on end at traffic-lights with both feet up, with the ole' clutch/throttle/rear-brake trick ;-)

Yosi - you nutter!

I agree I find the GS better, probably because most vehicles arent vans and 4x4. Put narrow bars you get a less manouverable but still large bike.

Anyway Spanish white van driver tends to be a bit slow to respond and if its a mercML whatever, well 50% chance the ashtray is full and its about to be part exchanged so, what the hell...:D
