Just bought a Garmin Montana and used it for a couple of weeks now, this is my first GPS always used a map on tank bag before. I was a bit concerned about the touch screen and how the screen would fare in direct sunlight. I needn't have worried, its easy to use even with gloves although may not be that great with big winter gloves and the screen is easily readable in sunlight. I am getting to grips with the menu's now and find it all pretty easy although i have nothing to compare it with. I have not used the OS maps for any offroad stuff yet, i think that may be a little more challenging:nenau. So far so good though, but i do need a cable to hardwire it in so i'm not reliant on batteries.

Glad you're enjoying it Andy. I got one with OS maps but got a card with topo. maps for Europe.
Mounted it on a quick release cradle from RAM so I can put it on the two M/Cs and the bicycle as well.

I bought a RAM cradle which is great, as you say its really quick to change between bikes. I am looking for a solution though to hardwire a cradle in as i am building a rallye bike :D and the gps will be my speedo etc. The only one i have seen at the moment is the touratech one which houses the garmin wired cradle. It looks expensive at £130, but could be my only option.

There is nothing wrong with the Garmin AMPS mount. I have used it on my green lane bike and on the GS. Its never come loose or broken the power connection. You need the backplate with ball and the rest of the RAM stuff.

You can get them for good prices in the US on ebay. Got mine from this guy as he has the cheapest postal rates and fast delivery... prices are also under the import tax "threshold".

Thanks John, the AMPS mount works well on the tenere, I was concerned about vibration being an older single but its all good.:friday
