More on Tyres

I notice a lot of GS riders using "off road" or "enduro" tyres on their bikes, which is not a bad thing if you do actualy go "off road" with them. The only off road I do, is crossing the grass verge in fornt of my house... so when my tourances (which came fitted when I bought the bike) need replacing, I will be looking for pure street touring tyres.

Genuine question - what do you hope to gain?

I'd guess he's after more grip, I have tourances and not noticed any grip problems though.

More mileage, I get 12000 out of a rear Tourance on my 1150.:thumb

I've never thought about moving away from Tourances, but I've read some negative comments about the new ones.

I'd like to be patriotic and fit some Avons, but still not sure.

Conti Road or Trail attacks have had good reviews. To be honest I never go off road, so do the road attacks give more mileage than the trail attacks?

Who knows?

Don't know if bt021s come in GS sizes, but I've read a few negative comments about them on this site. http://diversionclub.proboards74.com/index.cgi?board=tyres&action=display&thread=2834

Got new tyres last month, asking for 021`s to replace my 020`s. When they came down I had an 021 rear, but an 020 front. Been trying to get the "right" feel ever since! It feels uneasy in the same way my 1150 did when I got the front wheel fitting slightly out - a sort of vague wandery feeling when moving off, seems to go away by 35mph or similar.

Now had a couple of sets of Avons (not sure what models and it's dark now) and have been very happy with the grip, wet and dry. Definitely a road biased tyre though. I've not had the same mileage as you've had with your Tourances and the current set won't last that long. The last set were spoilt with a puncture through the sidewall so I didn't get to run them to the death.
