More Problems with the recently acquired Aircoooled

Whilst stripping down the recent aircooled purchase to replace the driveshaft (which is completely KO'd and unrepairable thanks to all that helped with that) I found the below scoring inside the hub that has been caused by the rear brake shoes?!?! Any idea why? It all looks fine brake wise (apart from the scoring on the drum and the side of one of the shoes of course)

Looks like the shoe springs were fitted the wrong way round to me.
