The first of these new GA15 Quest cradles arrived.

Most have now been sent out to those lucky b***ers who got in quick and ordered early. Paul (aka SilentG) is 'officially' the first to get his hands on one and has posted some pics. Cheers Paul.., and other pics appear on the RAM UK site using the link http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/bike-mount18.htm

All pics of your 'bikes and Quest mounts" will be greatly appreciated in the coming weeks.

For others wanting to see a naked GA15 then here's your chance for a closer look.

Hi all,

A quick message ... just had latest shipment with more Quest cradles RAM-HOL-GA15 and ALL GPS Warehouse back orders have been cleared today.

RAM-HOL-GA15 Quest cradles "now in stock", so no delays are expected for a few weeks.

I think we have most of the stock, so I am off to ebay.

How long now before you get delivery of the powered ones?

Les,

There is no powered GA15 cradle coming that I know of. The only recent debate in the forum has been on Quest power cables for use on bikes. Suggest a trawl within the last 3 forum pages should help.

Recent debate on power cables is on the link
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35033

I am aware two suppliers shall have a power solution, Adenture Motorcyling and for cables with a BMW plug or bare wire ends shall be available from GPS Warehouse (www.gpsw.co.uk) but its still sometime away yet.

I think Les is talking about Garmins own Motorcycle mounting kit (unit bracket, power/audio cable), part number 010-10610-00.

This will be available from Garmin from mid February as far as I know. :)

How much are they ?
How do they attach to the bars ...? Or don't they?

about £8 for the mount, plus RAM parts to attach to handlebars.

Say about £25 all in will get you sorted

Hi Jon .. thanks .

I hear GPS Warehouse have done a Quest GPS bundle comprising the
Quest GPS unit + RAM Quest cradle (GA15) + RAM U-bolt mount (149Z) all for £359.99 inc VAT !!.

I told 'em its too cheap but they don't listen to me .

Being new to this .... RAM parts are what? I'll assume it's not a male sheeps mutton dagger

Suggest a look at www.ram-mount-uk.com to show you a vista of RAM parts.

On bike mounts, the 1" ball system is used so all the part codes shall have the code prefix of RAM-B-???

The RAM Quest cradle is RAM-HOL-GA15 beneath the large image is some 19 standard mount options.

The U-bolt mount options has three choices: -
RAM-B-149ZA = U-bolt (Zinc)+ bracket, short arm and diamond base
RAM-B-149Z = U-bolt (Zinc) +bracket, standard arm and diamond base
RAM-B-149 = U-bolt (Stainless Steel) +bracket, short arm and diamond base

Also .. there's a section under the sub headings named 'accessories' listing B,C,D and this is where you need to know what size balls you've got (pun is intended). The B 1" dia size list add-ons to expand an existing mount, hence that parts are listed as RAM-B-???. It's not science really .. just a knack.

Can't it just attach to the cross brace ?
>> no its too thin, the U-bolt will attach onto 3/4" to 1" dia bar.

I'm not sure if I want ride around with a huge arm on the bars ?

>>The B size arm is in 3 sizes, short arm (as in RAM-B-149ZA) is length of your thumb whilst standard arm (as in RAM-B-149Z) is length of your index finger. Suggest a look in this fourm under Quest as mount pics have been posted or look at the customer gallery > bike mount reviews > BMW on www.ram-mount-uk.com as there's several now to look at after GSer members sent me pics.

I've just fitted a RAM base mount RAM-B-108-GP1 to my 1200GS and quite pleased with the result.
I have photos, but don't seem to have the facility to attach them to a post???

I've got a 01-065-0257-0 cable on order from touratech. - their mount arrived in the week so tomorrow's 5 minute job is to put that on and take the GPSMAP 76S one off.

€47 for it mind, and that'll not be the uk price for sure. It's got the din plug/audio jack on it.

It's in short supply apparently, and there's no pic on the TT.de page so I guess they've not had any production ones with the regulators back from wherever they get them made. I've never ridden for > 5 hrs in a day so the 20h battery should be fine for daytime use for now.

I have to say the product coding is confusing. I assumed 'Z' meant zinc and 'A' meant short, so was suprised when my B-149 turned up with a short arm rather than the standard length. I suppose I'll have to fork out for another arm.

A couple of suggestions. (1) ship a short length of rubber with each handlebar mount to save people the trouble of finding something that won't scratch their handlebars. (2) ship a standard locknut (type used with handlebar mounts) with each arm, then once you have the unit correctly positioned you can replace the butterfly nut with the standard nut to prevent casual theft.
