Morocco in August 2012

Well my Wife and me, decided to leave from Rhodes,Greece and go to Morocco in August on a Bmw r1150 gs!! I've read a lot of your posts and i can say that are very heplfull...

Here I have the route we wish to take and spent 8 days

If you have the time and the kindness to take a look and advice me if it's a good route that would be very heplfull.Keep in mind that we are not so off-road animals but we love adventure!!
One really important guestion I have is that in Imilchil are there any hotels??

Yes.

4 or 5.

Keep going out of town and up to the lake though......the one there (and I cant remember the name) has some stunning views and they are lovely people......they have opened up for us several times out of season with no warning of our arrival, got the log burner going and supplied food.



Your route overall seems to accomplish a lot in terms of doing a circuit, but you are missng out on some stunning roads (just a quick glance for example at Boumaine Dades where you turn left instead of heading up the gorge

The coast is crap as well........TBH I'd keep well away from Casablanca and Agadir, they are just tourist traps and not very nice at all, and the roads are flat and boring (as well as featuring a lot of autoroutes from a quick glance at your map )

Cover less ground but be more selective about it

You also seem to have missed out on Ait Benhaddou and Telouet Kasbah (now all tarmac).

Oualidia on the coast is interesting though the choice of hotels is poor.

I forgot to mention that both Boumaine Dades and Ait Benhaddou are on my list, we’re planning of staying 1night in chefhaouen,2 in fes,1 in imilchil, 1 in ouarzazate,2 in Marrakech and 1 in casablanca....But I had a hesitation about Casablanca and as you advise me is correct. Do you propose another destination rather Casablanca??

Are you sure you want to ride in the August temperatures?

It's a problem but I leave in a place that the temperatures of summer are from 35-40c

Rabat is quite a lively city, thoroughly enjoyed staying there last year

Rather than Casablanca, try Essaouira just to the south. Medieval port city with fantastic seafood & photo opportunities.

Personally and IMO I found Essaouira full of busy tourists doing the tourist thing and with prices elevated to match....yes it's a nice town to take a dander in for sure and I have some nice pics of same....but for me only one night to say 'been there done that'...

I don't think I'd make a point in returning as I think there's more stuff to see elsewhere...

What ever floats your boat as they say...maybe a bit of online research could be carried out to confirm yea or nay?

IMO also..Casablanca and Agidir...ho hum...give them a miss....a day in those places will be a day missed being somewhere good.
