Morocco Next month - P&O or ride

Hi Folks

I know similar questions have been asked before but.....

I am looking at going to Morocco next month, would like to depart Portsmouth to Bilbao on 11th March, return 27th March so 2 weeks 2 days. THe best price for the ferry crossing seems to be about £585 and that was P&O direct. I tried Motor sport Travel but they dont do P&O anymore and the Brittany ferries dont start till a week later.

So, my question(s):
Can anyone recommend an agent for P&O, I have crossed previously at about £400 (with more notice though )

If I took the £35 Dover Calais crossing, does anyone have a rough estimate of tolls for the 1400 mile trip from Calais to Algeciras??

Update: ferry booked for £186 each with Nutt Travel.

Next question.....

Anyone any preference / advice on either of the two routes. Google is suggesting the western route as its 4 mins quicker

Western route via Salamanca, Zafra and Seville = 658 miles
Eastern route via Madrid, Granada = 669 miles

I have done the Madrid route and quite fancy avoiding it but not sure what the motorway is like on the Western route and if it has Tolls (it looks like more miles to me, not less)

Defo go western

Avoid Madrid

Go Burgos - Salamanca - Caceres - Merida - Sevilla - Algeciras

with detours off the motorway as much as your time allows.

Now the road building on the western route is almost complete I would definitely go that way. It's Autovias (non-toll) and dual carriageway for all but about 30-40 miles.

Garmin maps won't have the new Autovia sections unless you have v2009 so you'll have to read road signs.

Stop at low cost hotels/hostels in the service roads.

Came up that Western route in 07 and can thoroughly recommend it

Did Western route last year and it's a good road, much better than trying to get through Madrid. Tim is right about using the hostels- cheap clean rooms and decent grub too. Paid about 25 euros for the rooms and three courses and a bottle of red for about 15 euros

Thanks also for the tips on the stops but will be trying to do it in one if all goes according to plan. Thats no punctures, breakdowns and speeding tickets and also assuming my mate can keep the pace on his xt660z

Go Dover Calais and don't ride on any toll roads or Motorways. Cheaper and more fun and if it take a day longer who cares....
