morrisons 20/50

Why not? just change it every 3,000 miles instead and still be in pocket - so long as its the correct spec. no problem.

I've been using Wilko's own (15w-40) for a good 3 years now with no problems whatsover - bit more expensive mind - £8.49 for 5L. :blast

I would bet the Morrisons oil will be API SJ - which is about the average spec now...

Beemers only need SG - but afaik that became completely obsolete 9/10 years ago.

i,ll double check next week, but im fairly sure it stated was for classic cars or can be used has a engine flush, but they also sell 10/40 and 15/40 at £6.90 4 ltr

Asda sell something similar and as mentioned in this thread it too states on the label "can also be used for engine flush" which kinda doesn't inspire me with confidence ;)

I must admit I've splashed out on something which states a grade on its label :D

more than a few guys on here swear by duckhams classic which is API SF - thats a recommended grade for the GS.

Earlier API grades may still be available - but not on the cheap rack in Morrisons - you'll be dealing with specialist mail order or special orders formulated for owners clubs and the like.

Proff is of the opinion that Duckhams is the work of the devil :D which is enough for me - I use car grade Rock Oil 20/50 (cos their trade counter is 10 minutes from my door).

morrisons oil

20 /50, i have used it in my 1200 all last year , seems fine , never used any and it has now done 80000 miles touch wood

Spot on Matt

Use that Rock or Castrol or Silkolene 20/50s

The Morrisons oil is stuffed full of detergents, but thats not a bad thing.
1000 miles and do an oil and filter change and the inside of engine will be like a new pin :)

Regarding "OLDER" stuff remember the Boxer engine was developed by BMW in 1922 for the Victoria / BMW makes of motorcycle.. hasn't changed much since then :augie apart from the oilys, but I ain't got one of them :rob
1923 one below>

I wasn't advocating its use... far too expensive for my old tractor anyway. And I'll never argue with another Walsall native. :augie

Thats a gorgeous bike there proff. Still prefer this.. bit more 'modern' though.

£4.95 for 4 ltr is that a bargain or what, shame i have,nt got the balls to try it

Its only oil......:augie

I've been using it for the last 6k in my R1150R.. no problem.

I remember that one of the consumer type TV programmes did an 'investigation' into oil prices and effects etc many years ago.. (it may have been Watchdog?)

They concluded that there was very little difference between 'branded' and un branded oils..I always remember that Asda's oil was the one that was on par with Castrol.:D

I always use supermarket oils in my cars, and have done since i started driving 25 years ago and i have'nt had a failure(yet!)..

Use it,....just make sure the filter you use is 'quality'..now thats far more important IMO

Proff is not the first person I have known to dislike Duckhams, a plant manager mate who is a seriously good engine technician reckons it cost him a new engine once too, my oilhead currently runs on Morriss of Shrewsburys finest 20w50, its about £6.99 for a gallon, I do a change every 3000, quality filters, not concerned at all. My old R100 used to get the same fare.:thumb2
I did a course once on thermal analysis equipment, some of the bods on the course were techs for Castrol and Shell, they did spill the beans on which supermarkets own brands were theirs, info too old to impart now though.

Asda - £4.50 a gallon for the same stuff.

*does the little ass slap thing*

Were you on the A511 today? thought i saw you 'sneaking' up the line of traffic Leicester side of Morrisons :augie:augie

reckon your nearside fogs out :D

not me mate, i think.. i was out the other side of leicester doing my enhanced rider.

You are quite correct in that the boxer engine was designed that long ago, but as boxer is German for horizontally opposed cylinders, that does not mean that your engine has any parts in common with the 1922 one.
The four cylinder in line engine was designed long before the horizontally opposed (boxer) engine but that does not mean that your Ford Mondeo needs the same oil either.
