Planning a route down to the black forest and alps from Zeebrugge.

Got the maps out and a nice spot/stop looks to be the Moselle valley between Luxembourg and Germany.

Any experience anybody including recomended towns/accommodation?

Any villages on the Moselle are very nice. Cochem is probably the busiest and has the most hotels and is about 1/2 way up the Moselle between Trier and Koblenz.

I've stayed there a few times, first time in Klotten, 2nd across the river about a mile from Klotten and the 3rd was about 3 mile from Cochem, all lovely places, you can't go wrong. Fantastic roads round there as its a stones throw from the Nurbergring, check whats on as it a great day just going there:thumb2

A few years back I booked via Expedia a single night here (in the hotel):

As for places to go etc, use the well trodden Michelin maps for roads and when you get there pick any road/place you like the look of. Keep out of the forests though, them ants are everywhere.

Enjoy.

PS. I was in the Moselle for a day last week, sunshine all day.. bliss.

Trier is a fabulous city, especially if you have time to spend a day there off the bike. I was fascinated with the history of the place from pre-Christian times to the modern day.

I used the Hotel Garni Grund, a small family run place. It is close to the city centre and has off-street parking at the rear.

Wessie, I was trying to work out where the Porta Nigra is on your pic. Is it over the Mosel directly above the distinctive red roofed
building which is on your bottom border of the pic (or is that bunch of trees? I've not got my specs on :D)

Bit to the left of there I think - where my cursor is...

Bit late but spent a few days around here in July and staked tha the Zur Post in Klotten. It's a biker hotel with 5 star secure in-door parking!

Great food and great hosts.
