I'm looking to replace the battery on my 2004 1150 Adventure, as the original one is on its last legs. On measuring it, it's 75mm wide yet all the Motobatt ones for this model and year (MB51814) are 82mm wide so won't fit!

I've read several good reviews on here re these batteries so am I looking in the wrong place going to eBay?

I've got a 2004 1150....and in it, I have an MB51814, stood outside right now, and the box for that battery is right by me as I type
My previous 1150GSA was a 2003 made bike, registered 2004, and that also ended up with the same Motobatt.

I can't honestly say I ever measured either battery, but I can totally guarantee that whatever came in both boxes marked up on the battery AND the box fitted straight into those two bikes, dropping in with no fuss whatsoever.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the specs with regards to the dimensions relate to the top plate of the battery, which may (I can't remember) be a tad wider.......perhaps Motobatt have erred on the side of caution and given the WIDEST measurement up there and the body of the battery actually slides in perfectly :nenau

Has your battery carrier been bashed maybe?
My first GSA was an ABS model, my current one is factory non-abs, so that won't make any difference.

I do have some electrical stuff to fark around with this weekend, so if you can't get your mind at rest, I'll happily take some pics, or if you like, I'm not far up the road from you (Harwich) and you can come look at mine (ooooer missus) but unless you're being cack-handed with a tape measure or the published specs are measured from a top plate, or somebody has modified your battery box, I honestly can't understand where that 7mm has gone :nenau

I've got an MB51814 on my 2003 1150gs, fits the battery box no problem. Also looks the same size as the OEM one that came out, without having actually measured. I recollect the mechanic had to tweak the cables a bit when the first Motobatt was fitted, I dropped another one in recently with no dramas.

Tale of woe!

Got the Motobatt 51814 and it didn't fit (as I thought), so opened out the battery cage enough to squeeze it in but super tight! Wired it all up and starter wouldn't run, just solenoid clicking - the reason for replacing the original battery. Stripped the starter down and found planetary gear cover off - put it back in place and put it back together. Click, click, click.

Ordered new starter motor, put new one in - click, click, click!!!

Borrowed a jumper battery and connected direct to starter...engine turned over. Connected it to Motobatt in place on the bike and engine turned over. Charged up the old battery and put it back in...engine turned over.

The Motobatt was a dud!!!

Odyssey PC680 on order!
