GS Motobatt users. I am wondering what sort of service life you have got from your Motobatt on a 1200gs? Thanks.

Not on the gsa but I have a Motobatt on my big bore tuned gsx1100 katana, standard battery struggled to start it, the Motobatt has been on now for 2 years with no problems

4 years on the GSA, 3 on an R1100R. Put key in, press button. No optimates or others used in winter. The original BMW battery was causing problems in hot starting on the GSA where the voltage was dropping just enough to stop HiD headlamp turning on. Not a problem with the Motobatt.

Only a year on my GSA so far, cured my hot starting/slow cranking problem. Recommended.

Battery on my 08 GSA replaced with nearly new odyssey last year. I suspect it was the original BMW battery.

So what???

This thread is about Motobatt, which are at least 40% cheaper than Odyssey and fit better and in some cases work better

The SO WHAT is they are both AGM lead acid batteriesI. It's. doubtful the extra cost of odyssey amounts much more than the fancy name.

I've had both batteries in my x Moto and the oddeysey battery died pretty fast after a couple of months of not using the bike. So I swapped to a cheaper motobatt and there as been no problems since.

Big plus for Motobatt. Had mine on for 3 years, 50,000 miles in all weathers, the bike lives outside, no optimate and will spend periods of up to 5 weeks in a container chugging across the oceans. Never had an issue with cranking or starting. Great value for money:thumby:

So that adds nothing to this particular discussion:blast

Have you even used a Motobatt?

I have twice and they are good

I have used an Odyssey once and wouldn't bother again, real palaver to fit and only likes a CTEK as a tender

Couldn't agree more JB, I put an Odyssey battery on my first 1200 and it was no better than my current Motobatt but cost more than twice the price. Still got the expensive CTek charger I had to buy to look after it.

Motobatt was great on my previous bike that stood outside in all weathers and never saw a charger. The Odyssey on the GSA was 2nd hand, 1/2 price and hardly used so I took it. Fitting was easy I just had to reroute the battery cables. The crap kit supplied with the battery is just that - total junk and totally not needed.

I'd understand If I was comparing Ballistic to Motobatt. But point in the discussion was that both are AGM type batteries so what's the fuss about?

The original battery on my GSA lasted 5 years, I've had a motobatt on it for the last 6 months.

Doesn't add much to the discussion, but I made my decision based on earlier posts on this forum. :rob

Thanks everyone for the replies. Unfortunately my own experience with Motobatt has not being so good on my 2006 GS. Guess it got by quality control....or my Optimate 3 is unsuitable? Back to lead acid for the mo. My original lasted over 6 years. Thanks again.

They are all lead acid so fine with Optimate. AGM adds reinforcement to the active material, but basic chemistry is much the same.

For a 30 years old tech it really should be cheaper by now

I wish I could justify the cost of a Ballistic battery. See LPO below
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/types_of_lithium_ion

That IS different tech - a lot lighter, a lot smaller, can't spill and gives full output to a much deeper discharge. But it costs at least double for the same cranking power.

Replaced the OE battery just after Christmas - It hadn't failed but after 9 years I figured it was due to.....and I'd rather not have it happen at an inconvenient moment, which is so often the way with modern batteries: Both Car and van have seem fine 1 minute and dead the next.

Motobatt fitted since then and no problems so far..... I was worried I'd bought the wrong one, as it is physically smaller than stock, but it appears not.

I have them on the Hardley and the GSA...very impressed.. The Hardley one is a monster.... And really cranks the engine over..

Happy to recommend...
