I wonder if I am the only owner who cannot get his Motrax Cocoon bike cover to keep out the wet. These looked like just the business for a bike kept outside in all weathers and I got one last year. After the first wet and windy spell I found the bike soaked under the cover. I looked closely at the cover and saw that where it had been rubbing on the sticky out bits of the bike some of the outside coating of the top part of the cover seemed to have rubbed off so I got in touch with the seller and she quickly got me a replacement.

This time I put padding on all the sharp corners of the bike before covering it up and there is no apparent damage now to the cover but the water kept pouring in after heavy rain. I noticed that none of the stitched seams were sealed so I sealed them myself with silicon compound and put the cover back on the bike confident that I had dealt with any possible water entry weak spot.

This morning after a day of snow and rain I took the cover off and can confidently say that the only fully waterproof part is the base. I know that because about a pint and a half of water that had leaked in was collected by the well constructed base and none had leaked out. The bike was sitting in a puddle of water.

I think Motrax are now in administration so a second replacement is probably not forthcoming and in any case I can't see any defects in the current cover so a replacement is just as likely to leak.

Does anybody use one of these covers to keep out real rain and snow? If they do can they tell me where I am going wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I notice their waterproof tests consist of a simulated 5 minute shower. I think even my cocoon could stand up to that. Its the five day constant rain that appears to cause problems. I am going to go for a lined PVC cover and just bite the bullet when it comes to condensation problems. The best cover I ever had was a Lidl blue waxed fabric cover that cost about 12 quid. Easy to put on, totally waterproof and withstood all the winter gales. The only trouble was the waxy residue it left on your hands and after one winter and summer it went very hard and brittle the next really cold spell and started to crack.

Unfortunately the next offering from Lidl was much the same material as the Motrax and it leaked as well.
