Hi,
I believe the Zumo 550 comes with a mount (RAM hardware ?) to attach it to a bike (mine's an 1150). Is this the only hardware I need? If so why would I want to buy another mount (Migsel or Motorrad concepts for example)?
A lot of people seem to buy another mount aswell, so do you do this cos the mount that comes with the Zumo is not very secure or does'nt put the Zumo in a convenient position?

Thanks,
Rich

The ram mount that I got with the zumo was designed to be positioned on the handlebar which is not great.I wanted mine straight in front of me so I went for the migsel mount a real tasty piece of kit and michel is a super bloke to deal with.

My Zumo is on the supplied mount, on the handlebar. I think its perfect!

I reckon you should buy the zumo and install it using the supplied ram mount. Then if later you want a change you can buy a new mount.

Cheers.

Another user of the Migsel mount for his Zumo, but I had mine already and would go with the recommendation to try the supplied mount first. :thumb

Thanks for the replies guys. Sounds like good advice to try the included mount first (why did'nt I think of that ! ).
I really just wanted to be sure that the included mount would be ok and I didn't need to get another mount straightaway.
Very helpfull answers, thanks :thumb

I have used the following Ram parts ordered from gps warehouse.

RAM-B-231Z 3 £11.98inc VAT (replacement U bolt
RAP 319 £1.98inc VAT (shim)

These parts fit well and not too dear.

pics of installation here: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83555

This will allow you to mount on the oval bar round the clocks.

Thanks Jinxit, but unfortunately my bike is an 1150, so doesn't have the same bar over the clocks to mount the Zumo.

GS Mad, do you have any pics of the Zumo on the supplied mount please?

Thanks,
Rich

I really am going to become a site sponsor. Until then, sorry I cant post pics.

I have it mounted on the left hand side and I have powered the unit by tapping into the back of the accessory socket. I really think it looks tidy.

More embarrassment for me.

Zumo arrived yesterday (aren't Zumos brilliant) - took one look at the bits of wire :eek and called Cray Engineering of Sittingbourne to see if they can do a tidy job of it, as I believe tank bits and bobs may have to be removed. Maybe there is a course I can go on.:o

I got the Zumo hard wired today into the battery with the stock mount and its gleaming.
Really close to the left hand so easy to answer calls and switch MP3 tracks without leaning over to above the clocks .
