Hi Chaps,

I'm about to spend a few bob on a new flip up lid.
My final 2 contenders are either the Shuberth C3 or the new Shoei Neotec.

In order to get a really good feedback, has anyone owned a C3 and replaced it with a Neotec ? and if so what are the benefits or disappointments?

Finally whats the cheapest supplier of each ?

Thanks for your help :beerjug:

Thanks Edster191,

I had already searched that topic but in this instance I am interested to hear feedback from riders who have gone directly from the C3 to the Neotec and therefore are able to give a first hand overview of which is better !!

I would appreciate your comments chaps :rob

Cheers

C3 is cheaper than neotec at J & S in oakmere...

i've just got one..

I've done this swap.

The C3 was good, quiet, comfortable (on a short run - more on this in a mo), all those good things that people say about it.

But I bought a large. Sometimes I'm a large, sometimes I'm an extra large. The large seemed to fit (in the shop). And on short-ish runs it was fine. However, anytime I had it on for 2 - 3 hours plus... not so good. There were pressure points behind my ears (where the end the arms of my glasses sat); and another on my foreheard, which when I took the lid off left me with a 'brand' that took half an hour to fade. Until it did I bore a striking resemblance to Rimmer from Red Dwarf.

Oh, and I never really liked the ratchet buckle system. It caught on my collar when I did life savers, and didn't feel as secure or comfortable as a double 'D' fastening does.

And while I think of it, it took two hands to close the chin bar, which I always thought was annoying. And the visor slammed shut too easier as I rode along.

Apart from that, great!

So now I have a Neotec. I have a Shoei shaped head (apparently); I have an XR1000 which I have worn for 500 mile days without discomfort, and this feels the same. Everything fits and works, and the visor clicks and seals right. The ventilation is good, as is the visibility, and the Pinlock Max is great. The edge of the sun visor is out of my line of sight, and all of the gripes with the C3 aren't there. I even managed to get away from the buckle retention system Shoei saddled it with in Europe by buying mine on a trip to the US (worked out about £400, by the way).

So, long story short, I really like it, and I think it's a sufficiently good change as to count as an upgrade. I plan to add a Midland Next bluetooth head set to it later this summer. It's got ear pockets for speakers, so I'm not anticipating any problems.

Hope this helps.

Hi SiBorg,

Many thanks for your post, this is the sort of real back to back feedback I was looking for and does confirm a number of the shortfalls of the C3.

Out of interest, which helmet would you say is the quietest??

Cheers

From a noise perspective, I'd say there is very little in it. The C3 may be a bit quieter, probably because the chin curtain is a bit bigger. On the other hand though, the size of the neck curtain is the reason why the chin bar takes two hands to close it properly (and why you have to open the flip front to put it on, something you don't have to do on the Neotec).

Cheers.

I changed my C3 for a Neotec. The C3 felt poor quality in comparison with Arai's and Shoe's but it was quite comfortable.but the customer service is crap. Mine leaked in rain down the inside of the visor, so I took it back to the dealer, who sent it to the importer, who couldn't do anything, so sent it back to to Schuberth in Germany, where they kept it for 6 weeks before sending it back dying there was nothing wrong. But you could slip a credit card between the visor top and te face seal, so clearly there was! So they sent it back again, where it toyed for a further 8 weeks. Eventually they sent back a new one, but by that time I'd done a deal with Infinity for a new Neotec. Done about 4k now with the Neotec, changed the cheek pads for a size smaller after a couple of hundred miles and very pleased since then. It's got a really easy one hand open/close, it's well vented, the drop down visor is very good and better than the C3. It's a bit noisy, but no more than the C3, the visor is better and it doesn't leak down the inside, and it's got recesses for comms.

The only problem you may find with the Neotec is getting one.

Infinity in Southampton had them on Saturday, HG in Soton only have XS at present.
