There are various sorts of .mp3 formats. You have to use the "real", original .mp3 format and it is the least compressed of the various options. Check on your software which formats are available.

Make sure it is MP3's your transfering across and not WMA (Windows Media Audio file) as these will not play on the 2820

Never transfer maps directly to the 2820 using map source, it will over write the base maps and you will be stuffed. Always send them to a USB memory stick and then copy to the 2820 when in storage mode.

In the case of the 2820, it has a base map that doesn't get overwriten when you download extra map content with Mapsource.

(caught me out too... takes years but Garmin do stop doing some of the dumb stuff they do... =)

Araspitfire,

If you send any maps form Mapsource to 2820 in will currupt the base map. I had the unfortunate way of finding this out 2 weeks ago, which screwed my GPS and had to send it back to Garmin for a replaement. You will get the message Maps Locked

Cheers

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.... but when I sent maps from mapsource to my 2820, it did NOT corrupt the base map...

I've been using Garmin for so long, that I selected all of the Netherlands when I wanted to add some Norway TOPO to my new unit... took me a bit to figure out that it wasn't necessary and that the basemap was still there... Now when I want to add extra map data, I just add it as I did before with my other Garmin GPS's... the Basemap stays (and works) just fine. The new map data goes into a file with a different name... (as seen when looking at the Garmin in Hard-disk mode)
