Slightly off topic this one, but there are plenty of wise old sages that can help me out here.

In the market for a new MP3 player- budget around £50. Would like a screen to see what I am playing and can select next (rules out a shuffle) must have decent sound- I am using my existing Shure headphones so what headphones it comes with are not important.

Main consideration is it has to be LOUD. No point in listening to Metallica et al quietly.

Anyone any recommendations???

I bought a cheap MP3 player from Play.com recently, with the aim of trying to build it into something else, possibly for use on the bike.

All I can say is that it works fine as a player, but the user interface is nothing short of dreadful - it'll never be used on the bike, that's for sure anyway.

All I can recommend about it is to avoid!

I've got a 3 year old Archos player as well and, although it's a little quirky, it is much better to use (and the 80G drive is nice too :thumb2)

I find that I can manage quite well without a screen on an MP3 player but am looking for one with large buttons which will be easier to press through a tankbag etc. Any ideas?

Sorry for the hi-jack haydw.

for £50 or thereabouts, you could get an Apple iPod 1GB Nano MP3 Player in Black

I use the 30Gb Video iPod and it's pretty awesome from what I've found

:)

Spent all afternoon on the old tinterweb and Argos (seeing as I am leaving my current job and got a load of vouchers as a gift)

Ended up getting a Samsung YP-K3- I know its only 1G but its all I really need. Argos have them on offer for £39.99 at the moment- was £59.99 for 1G (eek!!)

Anyway, got it home and I have to say I am very impressed. It doesnt have buttons, it is all touch screen. It is easy to use, and acceptably loud to boot. The software that comes with it is good, although I now have a problem with DRM protected files in Windows media player- it just shuts down as soon as I touch one- need to re-import the CD methinks.

Main thing is sound quality- I was always impressed with my ipod mini and its sound reproduction, but this is the dogs danglies. I know I am using my Shure E2C's, and they beefed up the bass on the mini ipod, but this thing takes it to a new extreme- it feels like the ground is shaking and it is crystal clear- very impressed.

All I need to do now is convert all my iTunes music (m4a files) to MP3/WMV and I will be laughing- anyone any suggestions as to how this is best achieved??
