I have had it for two weeks now and only covered 400 miles, I would have done more, but time constraints etc.
I am impressed with most aspects of the bike, especially how predictable it is on rough surfaced roundabouts with old hard tourances still on the rear
The slipping and sliding is a good feeling.....Then the front broke away too, not as much fun, but a buzz nonetheless!!
I am still fiddleing with suspension settings and am yet to find an ideal one for me, but saying that, it is acceptable the way it is, with impressive handling for such a large barge.
Power, you could always have more power, but I feel with this machine it would just get you into more trouble, the balance of power right now is good.
Brakes......Had to use them to save my life last week, they were very impressive and the bike was fine changing direction under very hard braking, the HGV driver was being a wnaker and I was riding too fast to be honest
But I was just enjoying my new ride.
Riding position for me is very comfortable, no aches pains or niggles, but then I am still a relative youngster when it comes to the average BMW rider.
Seat may require some assistance in the comfort stakes, but I have a dead sheep and some air to work with.
I have a Buell STT, so the seat height for me is lower than the Buell (Yes, I could be looked upon as a shortarse 5ft7") I am comparing the bike to others that I have recently owned including a Pan Euro 1300, but I am also not expecting the BMW to be as refined, I have not being disappointed, where the Honda was souless and refined, the BM has character and is a tad rough around the edges, but I know that it is smoother than many bikes out there, I particularly like the way in which the BM rocks as you rev the engine
The handlebar controls that so many whinge about are the most logical and are the easiest of any bike that I have ever had, it all makes sense to me.
Not really kept a concise record of fuel used, but I know that it is doing a very repectable mileage to the gallon compared to other machines that I have had.
It also looks as though I can maintain this myself, to a certain degree, doing the simple jobs etc.
I was lucky with this bike, it was in fantastic condition with low miles and a service record, I waited for the right bike to come along, I had no rush to buy and this is the key to sourcing what you want, take your time and hold out for a good one, they may not be as plentiful as later GS models, but there are still some out there if you really want a 1100......And in relation to the 1200, the 1200 is obviously more refined and powerful, but there is not a great gap in it all, not as much as I expected anyways.
I am happy.
