My 2010 GSA's new stablemate - 2005 Husqvarna TE 450

Wise? Wish I'd been when I first started:blast:D

The thing is, you will fall off, just protect yourself best you can afford.

A second pair of warm gloves is a good idea on a long ride but seeing as you're in the sub tropics down there......:Motomartin

I'm closer to the sea and Chichester Harbour (good when I want to go sailing or kayaking) than green lanes!!

Lanes are 20+ miles away.

You'll need waterproofs too......................it rains a lot in the UK

Preferably lightweight ones to wear over your supposed waterproof offroad gear:augie

LMAO :D

Talking of water......................carry plenty to drink, even in winter and some energy bars

Tools....................you'll need lots of those, no AA vans in a country byway

The former Husky owner also carried a Camelbak Bladder Rucksack and tools in a tube and I'm sure he said he carried energy bars too.
I forgotten what tools he said he carried now, :blast I was too excited about the bike. :bounce1
His tools couldn't of been many as they fitted in to a large tube with a screw on cap.

....have joined the TRF website but not a subscribed member just yet.

Then I suggest you join.
The riders will have plenty of info for you, regarding both what type of gear to buy, but where the nearest trails and severity of trails are in the area. I will put money on there being trails closer to your house that you think.
Your local group will have riders who just go out for a plod round, a type of ride of leisure with no pressure.

Joyce Green (as a turn up and pay event) has all shut down now. Shame - It was away from residential housing and seemed an ideal place to put a decent track.

I'm with some of the others and don't really get on with goggles. I use a pair of mt bike glasses.

A work colleague of mine (who is also the off road instructor) is organising a pay and practise event on 01/04 at Mereworth woods in Kent if you're interested. (Army ground). It might be a good place to come for the day and safely explore your / the bikes limits. PM me if yer interested .... :thumb2

I've been to Joyce Green several times with my cousins but only ridden around it on a few occasions.

They also rode a track near M25 named Canada Heights, I've never ridden at CH - It is a steep hilly demanding circuit.

Re; Mereworth - I'm interested but will check to see if it clashes with any other camping trip outing etc with the wife.
The Kent Region Warren Rally I think is sometime in April and I'll be on my GSA then. I'll check and get back to you. :thumb2

I noticed the TRF had their monthly meet tonight at Ashington - I will pop along sometime soon but need to arrange insurance, road tax and kit.

I'm happy with a leisurely ride without pressure, I'll increase the pace with experience and confidence in time. :rob

:thumb The day at Mereworth will be turn up and play, but they may be some instruction available too. There's quite a good mix there of simple hardpack trail, bomb holes, muddy rutts and woodland.

The event sounds really good.
I hope its a mixture of varied experience riders beginners and pros, as I don't want to be a muddy newbie numpty amongst seasoned Red Bull pros. :P
