Anyone else had a problem with the screen on the 2610 leaking water?

Mines got wet loads of times but at the weekend I noticed misting on the screen. Water got in under the anti scratch membrane and as it dried its gone like brittle cellophane and is cracking up and falling off. Luckily its still under warranty...The unit still works fine but not happy about it!

Anyone else had this? Any tricks to prevent it happening again?

After a hard day in the saddle, I've taken my 2610 into the shower with me to clean it off. However, it is essential that the CF door is securely closed.

If it's leaked, send it back to Garmin UK.

Yes!!

This is exactly what happened to mine!

One of the technicians at Garmin suggested that I'd used an ammonia-based cleaner which had wrecked the coating.

The boss man told me that they'd had several come back like this.

In any event, it was repaired under warranty and returned with 2 days..

Greg's comment about making sure that the CF card door is closed is "right on the money".

I never removed my 2650 from the moto mount whenever I washed my moto - even when I was using a high pressure coin-op wand. The Garmin engineers wanted me to leave it there to test and see if water got in. It never leaked, ever, and I never encountered any condensation inside the screen.

What you might want to do in the future is occasionally leave the GPSR out overnight in your home with the CF card door open, if you know that you have really dry air conditions in your home. I would not do this during summer thunderstorm conditions, though.

Another strategy is to go to a camera shop and ask them for a bag of dessicant (the stuff that says 'do not eat' on the packet). Put the dessicant pack on top of a radiator to dry it out, or put it on the top of your oven next time you are heating up some food (don't put it in the oven, just on top of it). Then, take the GPSR, with the CF card door open, and the bag of really dry dessicant, and put them into a Tupperware container and seal it up overnight. The next morning, the insides of the GPSR will be dry as a Nun's fart.
