Hi Folks,

just looking for some advice on a Dakar with a vibration problem.

it's one of those annoying buzzy vibrations that makes your hands go numb after 20miles :(
bike is an 06 Dakar with 17000 on it. it's been perfect up 'til now: no vibrations and no problems but then this vibration developed in the last 500 miles.
rear wheel bearing went and was replaced but wasn't the problem, had new chain and sprockets, no difference. finally narrowed it own to the engine (if you pull the clutch in whilst rolling the bike is perfectly smooth). had it serviced and spanner checked, no issues found. no fault codes found on the computer.

any ideas? i've been through the vibration FAQ and it doesn't sound like most of those problems. the vibration is through the bars and pegs and gets worse when you downshift. clutch maybe? transmission has always been clunky and noisy so it's difficult to tell.

any advice welcome.

cheers

Mark

Can't help I'm afraid but you'll get a better response over at f650.co.uk.

Good luck.

what bikes did you use before dakar?

single vibe anyway and i dont even notice it,but friends who come off sport bikes or even big v twin trailes think it is very vibey.

all depends what your comparing it too

Don't grip so tight on the bars :augie:augie:augie

Big singles vibrate unfortunately. I rode mine around the Alps last year and didn't have any probs, but it is like riding a road drill :D:D:D

They get smoother the faster you go, but after 80mph they start feeling a bit thrashy.

Try an oil change, mines feeling a bit rough now, but it is due a service :thumb

Try torquing up the engine mounts. These do come loose and cause the symptoms you describe.

Oh, and welcome to GSer land!

like spout says but do ALL the frame / subframe / engine and swingarm & suspension bolts and check the head bearings for play!

Hi all, and thanks for the responses.
turns out it is a failing gearbox bearing :( sounds expensive :(
