Just back from extensive testing on behalf of sufferers everywhere, I have had my lambskin seat cover for a long while now and it helps a little, yesterday I availed myself of an Aldi camping pillow, this was inserted between my lambskin and the seat and given the smallest of breaths to partly inflate, less is definitely more here, after a few hours I can say RESULT :thumb2
I am usually standing on the pegs after an hour, £4.49 well spent:)

Have you tried cycling undershorts? No seams, where seams shouldn't be, and a modicum of padding where padding helps. I always wear them on the bike and they do make a difference. They also wick away perspiration leaving those delicate parts fragrant and fresh!

I use Polaris

Puts a whole new slant on "buddy seat" !!!!!

air bags

Interesting thought, i have a kayak with an air bag seat filled with polystyrene balls. The idea is that when seated and the balls have shaped to your rear the air is sucked out creating a vacuum and holds the balls in place.
Sounds like a great idea im ripping mine out of the kayak tomorrow and will report back. oh happy days.

Try an Airhawk.. it worked for me.

+1

Needs a bit of adjustment ... the less air the better. Ambient temperature and body heat need to be factored in too ... again, the less air in the cushion the better.

Also ... it does raise the seat height a bit, so putting the seat in the lower position helped.

I favoured this option, to insert between seat and lambskin. Specs in the aldi ad were spot on. Bought one-found it was bigger than the spec, too big for this use. On the look out for a smaller one.

With my 1150 Adventure the low seat was a nightmare, could ride no mare than 70 -100 miles. The Airhawk worked for me. 6 days riding, 500 plus miles per day. Worked a treat. Worth the money.

Everyone is different so what works for one may not work for another.
I hated my standard GSA seat and tried the following:
Airhawk - Good but a bit fiddly and gave a slightly odd sensation as it moved around a bit underneath you. Also not secure and prone to moving from where you want it when riding stood up.

Kahedo/Touratech seat - OK, better than the original but still not the armchair experiance I was looking for.

Converted to standard 1100/1150 twin seats(pretty straight forward).
Better than the above.
Stayed with the standard twin seat configuration for the next 2....

Corbin - Now we're getting somewhere. Armchair like size and comfort but therein was the problem for my child size arse, it was a bit too big for me.

Sargent -Kerching, same sort of shape as the Corbin but a bit smaller. Super comfortable, no fannying about taking it on or off and they look nice too.
Take a coupla thousand miles to "bed in" though
Add some bar risers and it's a totally different bike to ride:thumb2

I bought all of the above except the sargent 2nd hand to try and sold em on without much loss:thumb2

Used to be lucky to be able to do 130 miles on my GS with the standard seat, I tried having it recovered with new padding and a gel insert and it made it bearable for an extra 30 miles or so.
Eventually I got and Airhawk , no pain in the first 300 miles in a day and the best so far is 570 miles in one day and I could still walk the next day.

I bought one of the Aldi pillows and used it as an addition to the sheepskin on the R1150GS for a "jaunt" last Saturday.
Inflated only slightly and placed between the sheepskin and the seat it cossetted my rear end whilst I travelled from Carlisle to Stranraer, Durness, John O Groats, Newcastle and home to Carlisle. I didn't start to shuffle about on the seat until I was well past the 900 mile mark. Well worth the £3.99 I would say.

Kahedo seats are excellent in my experience. If you don't want to fork out that much, before lashing out on sheepskin, why not try some vet bed which is available from pet shops? A fraction of the cost of sheepskin, virtually indestructable and machine-washable to boot!

About to try..

My standard seat, was ok for about 100 on the 1150.
I bought a narrower, thicker TT seat.. ok for about 110, but much better for off roading, though taller the narrow profile meant could get my legs down better.
I have a long hair sheepskin ready for my france trip on tuesday. Will see how I get on, hoping i can get a good 200 or so miles.
If i ride more than that, in one stint its not my numb bum that scares me, but my lack of concentration by that point.

I think 200 or so miles is enough. Time to get off and have a break and resset the concentration a little!

Numb bum or not...

Just got back from a ride to, and around, mid Wales. First trip on the new 'ish 1150GSA :D:D so I thought I'd try the seat with an Airhawk on the return leg. Big difference! I was getting a bit uncomfortable after 100miles without but got back without even noticing it. So +4 for Airhawk.

Of course I could ride all day, and have done many times, on my RT without a problem:)

So conclusion is use the standard seat on the GSA on its own for short trips and take the Airhawk for longer trips.
