I have an '09 F650GS with about 13K on it. I have had no trouble at all from the bike since I owned it the last 18 months. It lives outside due to me having no garage & is out in all weathers usually.
I went up to Birmingham recently for the NEC bike show from Devon.
The rain was pretty bad on the way up. My clocks/rev-counter etc were working fine when I set out.
As it got dark, I noticed that the back-light had stopped working so I could no longer see the instruments. I had my GPS to give me my speed so was not unduly concerned.
On the way back to Devon the following day, I popped in to Dick Lovett in Bristol to see if the could find a fault. They seemed uninterested to assist unless I waved loadsamoney at them so I( said I would sort at home and got home in one piece with the clock still dark but working.
A few days later I went to go to town on the bike and the entire clock/instrument panel was blank.
The bike started, as it always has, fine. I rode it up our lane & back and everything else (including lights and indicators) worked ok.
I had read on these forums somewhere that a flatter battery could cause issues so I checked the battery. I got 12v+ at rest and 14v+ running, so I don't think it could be this
I am now at a loss as to the cause of the problem, and wonder if anyone can shed some knowledge my way. I am not looking to cough up for a new console unless I need to - I hear they are not cheap
Assistance will be gratefully received cheers
