Just when I though everything on my bike was sorted, I was cleaning it today and noticed the coils sitting on top of the engine.

The picture in the Haynes manual isn't clear, but I didn't think it should be balanced there and extremely wobbly.

I made a phone call to the chap who rebuilt it for me who told me how it should be fixed to the bike.

What seems to have happened is the bracket is no longer welded to the frame, so I've carefully cable tied it back and will have to make a visit to Sleaford to have some remedial work done.

Bike still works, just has a floating coil.

There's a bracket that bolts to the frame with two 5mm bolts. Have they just dropped out? Just bolt them back in :nenau

My coil bracket had, i think, near as damit, rusted through, it had to be rebuilt with weld and bits of steel plate. At least i think it was the coil bracket?

Rob, It's bolted to the bracket good and solid. It's just the bracket is no longer connected to the frame! :eek

Before you go cable tying

if you hold them up do the coils touch the frame if so get a couple of bits of inner tube between them and the frame to try and dampen vibration

Before you secure them with cable ties

Its just the two 5mm bolts fallen off. Cheap and easy to fix. The bolts go through from the opposite side of the frame to the bracket.

Rob, when you get back from your gearbox demolishing adventure, perhaps I can bring it down to show you.

As you're an expert in these things I feel a bit silly contradicting your advice, however, there is nothing for bolts to go through except the bracket, and that's no longer welded to the frame.

Last night I looked at some photos I'd taken and I can see that it's been like it for a while, probably about 2000 miles.

It's cable tied for now (not vibrating against the frame) so will be ok until I can get it the bracket welded on.

My guess is that the bracket wasn't welded on properly after the frame was powder coated.

You can bring it round tomorrow if you fancy a ride over.

are you saying the entire bracket has come away. The one in the circle?

Rob, kind of you to completely strip a bike down just for the photo.

I am saying exactly that. There is no bracket on my frame at that point.

Mine doesn't even have that circle! :)

Tomorrow sounds fine. PM me with address etc. I can be there any time after 11.00 if that suits you.

David
