Went into garage turned ignition on pressed the magic button "AHHHH NOTHING" turn it off repeated "AAAAAHHHHH NOTHING" checked if it was in gear took seat off checked teminals all o.k at this point cried, phoned BMW SWB explained situation.. reply "Don't know" back into garage messed about pull clutch in turned on ignition and "HORRAY" it turned over.:JB

a mate of mine told me about a guy that used to fix all the police bikes in essex and lucky me his garage was just down the road in redbridge, rode the bike into him, "yep common fault" he say's a terminal behind the gearbox had rusted slightly, a pair of long nose plyers and some wd40 and 2mins it was sorted.

i was happy,:JB he was happy and £10 richer.

bad show SBW:mad:

can a mod move this to technical - but not sure which section 650/800/1100/1150/1200

Was it not just the gear position sensor behind the gearbox? It mis-reads if it gets damp - happens to me all the time. Usually obvious by there being no gear or the wrong gear indicated on the RID when you first switch the bike on. Happens to me all the time, I just get on the bike, flick the stand up, pull the clutch in and start it.

Next service I'll get it replaced under warranty and then coat it in WD40 - see if that helps :nenau

My 04 1200 GS has been doing the same recently - it goes in to Cannon on Saturday to have the petentiometer looked at (?) - their diagnosis over the phone.

Off to France with Wapping the weekend after and Le Mans in June and don't fancy trying to fix this at the side of the road in the pouring rain.

it's very easy to fix if you have a pair of long nose plyiers grab the wire on the sensor which behind gearbox in front of swing arm, ( it looks like rotor arm shape and black coloured plastic) pull and push wires this makes a good connection then cover with the lubicant of you choice. I prefer Baby oil myself but that's for another day. :drool

this happened november and i've had no problems since then.

Can someone tell me how to put a picture on here:nenau
