Hello everyone. This is my first post on the site although I've been 'lurking' for a few weeks watching and picking up loads of useful (and some not so useful) tips and opinions. Anyway I thought I should introduce myself and say Hi.

I've been riding for over twenty years and put 60,000 miles on a R800GS in three years when I was a bit younger, so I'm quite confident that I know opposed twins. Since the R800GS I've had a collection of jap and british bikes. Now I think I need a beemer again, hence my 'lurking'

Next my question-; I fancy a GSA 1150 but i'm not sure whether a GS1150 would suffice. I'm certainly not short in the leg so the increased height of the GSA wouldn't be a problem, I just wonder if the GSA is that much better? (they seem to be more dosh as well). I do a lot of mixed riding, including light off-road, fast road and touring.

Before someone says it, I do not want a 1200. It's probably me but I just don't like it.

I'm seriously in the market for a 02/03/04 bike and I'm looking for persuasive arguments one way or the other.

Help me out please.

Thanks

I am very very pleased with my GSA .

and i have not come across anybody who has gone back to a GS after a GSA:D

get a good long ride on both ,

and did i say welcome :) :)

Yup, what Ming said (PS how were the holibobs Matt?? survive the Inlaws ok ;) :D ).

I love my Adv.......wouldn't want a plain 1150 now at all......

The extra tank range is nice.......even ridden hard with Y piece and straight through zorst I get 250 miles from a tank.

It's also the best thing to sweep people aside on Motorways short of havng blue lights flashing away...the thing's got so much road presence it's unreal.

The extra suspension travel has been usefull, what with me being a lardy boy and enjoying the occasional play off road on it.

Some people don't get on with the Adv seat....I've never had a problem with it, and with my Alaskan leather dead sheep on the seat I regularly do 400 mile days several times in a row with no problems, the longest day 850 miles again no problems.

The ramped up charging system has been great....with extra lights, autocom, music, gps and very soon a heated waistcoat it's probably a useful thing to have as well.

If you find a decent used one, I'd say go for the Adv rather than the vanilla 1150.....after all, with the 12gs out now, the Adv could be the last in the line of the 'proper' GS's. :D

Oh, make sure it's silver BTW ;)

PS the gearbox choices you get are usefull too, either for off road or town trickling.

good break thanks bill

just missed my fav mambo shirt cos some twat bit the tit out of it!!!

other than that lots of sun sea sex beer and scuba . not in that order :D

oh yeah just get the Adventure and make it a black one as they are faster .......right boil ;)

Just wanted to say thanks for the replies.

I had already kind of decided but I'm now i'm definatly looking for a GSA, lowish mileage, full adventure spec, '02, '03 or 04

Hopefully I will be able to find the right bike in the next month or two.

Just thinking about it i'm getting quite giddy looking forward to next year!

Thanks again
'solid:D :D

ive got a dec 03 adv - fantastic - looks cool, rides great.

You also meet a better class of person altogether riding an adventure.;)

Don't tell anyone, but I still sometimes go outside and just sit and look at mine for no reason other than I want to.

Sad innit??;)

oh yes!!!

I have an 1150 and like you I don't like the 1200 either so I will have one of the last of the production of the GSA in 2007. The suspesion is a bit higher spec it does handle a bit better the gear ratios are slightly different but the 6th is more useable, the wheels are finished differently, braided brake hoses all round, its just a higher spec 1150 and now comes with the 30 ltr tank as standard.

Makes perfect sence to me - crackin Bike and looks dead sexy in a volumptuous kind of way :D

i own a black and mandarin gs adv - i must admit though i am partial to the gs1150 in graphitan - the larger tank on the adv is a big bonus but hey you can afterfit one to a standard gs1150 and hey presto you have the makings of a gs adv

Tang,

I was in Rydales cardiff yesterday, they had a silver GSA with full spec and alu luggage, 1600m on the clock, £8250 ... immaculate bike, was (am) sorely tempted but can't find the sovs at the mo ...

:(

no worries dave you,ll soon be subsadising your income with brown envolopes eh!!!;) ;)

buy a 1200 then :D
