My New F700GS

Well I can not stop smiling every time I ride it.

I should have made the change 18 months ago when my hip started to play up.

As said previously so easy to push around I also have a slight rise from my garage to the kerb i can also push it past the wife's car with plenty of room

i'm reading the thread with great interest.... i have been seriously considering selling my 2011 1200GS for the last month or so, and have been looking at the 800GS, however i have also been looking at the Triumph Tiger 800 XCx which is available lowered, jury is out just now, the Triumph gets better reviews for a "Road" oriented adventure bike but capable of off road excursions, the GS better for off road based excursions, i am drawn towards the Tiger just now... :hide ..

the lowered Trumpet loses the main stand as Triumph can't be arsed making a lowered main stand, and somehow looks daft when lowered as its bash plate is mere inches off the deck

I've just gone the other way and after 2 years with a 700GS gone for a R1200GSA (LC) Love my new bike, but I found the 700 brilliant at everything even a 3 week run down to Gibraltar never got it out of its depth. (and I was riding with 1200's
I have lots of bits including a lower seat, larger screen, BMW Vario Top Box with mount and a pair of Vario panniers if anybody wants them !! for handy money of course :)

Had the 650 (single disc) loved that and then got 700 with luggage and quite a few extras again great bike but somewhat disappointed with the handlebar controls left hand indicator packed in at 8000m, and new cost about £200, cheap crappy controls these, up to now only down side so overall its a thumbs up :thumby:

Just got back Sunday night from a 1000 mile plus trip on my new to me 2013 700,
Le havre down to El de rue then onto lourdes moved onto Liri in the pyrenees then along to Andorra and finaly up to Milua , Le mans and home via Cherburg.
Averaging 62 miles per gallon, approx 280 miles per day on back roads and some motorway, tried to keep off the tolls as much as possible.
Very impressed with bikes handling and turn of speed when required.

I've ridden both the XCx and the road version XRx. The first has the far better suspension of the 2 but a 21" front hoop and spoked wheels and tyre choice is limited. The XRx has alloy wheels. Both suffer from turbulence and wind noise and TBH didn't float my boat. Test ride them all and then decide :beerjug:

I am now an official Touratwat!

Fitted a GPS bracket which works great
BMW Vario Top case fitted
Fender extenda next

Still smile when I ride it

Feel a test ride coming on.

Quite fancy one of these or an RT next time.

I had a loaner ST800 years ago when my 1150 was in for service. Very impressive bike. The only thing that put me off was the price of the belts, bespoke for BMW naturally. For distanc ework on road only a much better option that the 700/800GS. Shit BMW panniers though!

Overall the price of the belts probably works out about the same as a couple of sets of chains and sprockets without the faffing around of cleaning/lubing/adjusting over the ownership period :D

What faffing about is that? Fit a Scottoiler or similar to take care of the lubing (which also helps keep it clean), and mine gets adjusted when the bike gets new tyres or goes for a service. Other wise I think I've adjusted the chain myself only a handful of times in 5 years ownership. So about once a year.
And yes, the vario panniers are shit.

By the time you've added the cost of a scottoiler and the oil plus the labour fitting it and a couple of chain kits the belts are about the same and no adjustments or mucky wheels :D
