I had an email from a friend with a link in, which, when clicked came up with the message "Not Found". I replied to the email saying that the link didn't work and to my surprise got the reply that it wasn't her that sent me the message in the first place even though it had her email address and had her name underneath.

I won't send the link here in full in case it's a scam, but it does contain something like pauldemetiurse, followed by a line of what seems to be random letters.

Is it a scam, worm, trojan horse, whatever?

Where did it start from, from the one I received or when I 'replied' to it?

Get malware bytes and/or spybot and run them ASAP any trojan or virus key stroke recorder etc will probably have installed when you clicked the link

Run any anti virus stuff you have with the computer in safe mode (i assume its windows based) in the meantime do not log on to bank or the like until you are satisfied that your system is clean

If it is an e mail based type of virus trojan warn your friends and contacts

I have had emails from myself if that makes sense So someone out there is using the same ID as me I never open them ,just mark as junk

"I assume it's Windows based" no, it's an iPad, where should I go from there?

Friends & contacts warned, cheers. :thumb2

Who has the problem?

Doesn't this mean that your friend has been hacked and should be doing something about it?

Does your friend have a Windows based system?

tom

Your friends email address has been hacked and set up to send a virus to everyone in their address book. They should check the 'out of office' function as this is the most common trigger; clear that and change their password, should stop it.

Open Disk Utility and verify disk permissions, then repair disk permissions.

Open downloads folder and trash anything in it that arrived after the email.

How do you do that on an iPad ?

Don't have an iPad, but you must be able to search for disk utility, then open disk utility, select HD, then verify permissions and then repair permissions.

If not check the apple forum.
Er, iPad doesn't have a disk.

Just ignore the email and don't be tempted to ope things if you don't know what they are.
