Just a note for pespective buyers, our manufacturer has the following warning:

There are at least 5 China HID makers copy our ballast, including making ballast's shape, label, bar-code' … etc the same as us, and they can even mark our brand on PCB board. One thing they can't do is that they can't copy our ballast's function & good quality

Copiers have two ways to sell False ballasts:
Ⅰ. They say they can supply our ballast with cheaper price us$16-$18 /pcs only.
Ⅱ. They ship our ballast to buyers but only 50-80% genuine product with 20-50 % fake ballasts inside the order.
More false ballasts inside the order, more defect rate you get.

The other thing worth noting ... is the operating temperature of our genuine ballasts is higher than the fake ones ... Most Chinese HID ballasts have a max operating temp of 65-85C. Ours are certified for operation at up to 105 degrees, with a maximum case temperature of 120 degrees!. Its the only company that does those.

Cheers :thumb2

Les this may have been covered before but will the Bike pass an MOT with your HID lamps fitted ? I thought I saw somewhere that the rerflector in the BMW OE lens reflects the HID in the wrong shape ?? please could you confirm as they look very good to me :aidan

Cheers

yes, for now,
they were supposed to be making it a fail, but its now gonna be next year probably, was gonna be sept this year,
until they do, dont worry, besides, its a very simple bulb change to mot with normal lights, (or buy the tester a beer)(i drink at the lion in cas:D).
the original glass, works very well with a good set up,according to my light beam tester, prob better imho than a normal bulb,

I have 50 watt HiD's fitted to both dip & main on my 1200. Up until now I have decided to take the risk on the legality of using them on the basis that they are not tested within the MOT and therefore not a fail. That doesn't mean they are a legal accessory however its a risk I have been prepared to take. I do a lot of night riding and the extra light for me is worth it. However, if the MOT test is going to include checking the headlamp lens for conformity to HiD legislation I think that is going to change my mind in how I use them. I know its a quick change to put a halogen bulb back in just for the test, but for me, I don't want a bike on the road which would be an MOT fail at any point in time between MOT's.

So if the MOT test does change so that HiD's in a non-approved headlamp housing would be a fail, I will revert back to standard halogen (put a couple of Xtreme bulbs in). I will move the HiD's over to the Hella FF50's I have fitted instead and add a handlebar switch so I can isolate them if necessary. I still then have the choice of using the Aux lights (also fitted with 35 watt HiD's) to augment the standard dip beam.

I would have thought that the law within the EU would be broadly similar, even if the enforcement clearly is not.

I live in Germany and did seriously consider fitting 4 of Les Wassal's HID Xenons. However, I did talk with the engineers (not motor mechanics) at the local TÜV Nord (German MOT) station. They were quite clear that Xenons can only be fitted, if they carry an EU 'E' number on the lens. They also muttered something about self levelling headlights, but seemed to accept electronic suspension as an alternative. Each country has it's own E number and these are acceptable throughout the EU.

A non 'E' number approved fitting is very definitely a fail within Germany, but the deal breaker for me is that the police here do actively prosecute those people with non approved lights. With an HID, it's rather obvious that you have then fitted and a prosecution is one point on your licence and €80 contribution to the Government coffers.

I eventually fitted Wunderlich LED running lights, which are bright white, but no more than 0.5W. They have an E11 marking on each lens. I have considered fitting a Xenon spot lamp - yours for only €350 my boy, from Touratech Germany, but will see how good or bad the 1200 GSA fitted lights are before going down that route. Only one Xenon is allowed to be fitted in Germany.

TÜV Nord will fail even one of these Cree LED bulbs fitted as a headlight parking light, even though such a parking light is technically not required, as dipped beam must be wired through the ignition. They do not have German TÜV approval and Touratech had hoped to get approval for these this year but when I last checked, they had been unsuccessful.

I think you would be unlucky to be prosecuted as a tourist whilst transiting through Germany, but you would be wise to carry a set of regular halogen bulbs to swap out the Xenons at the roadside if necessary.

it's not though, at least not yet.

bikes don't even need an MOT in france for instance.

AFAIK everything bolted to a german bike must be TUV approved. no one gives a monkey about such things in the UK.
