The fella wot runs the photo pally does have me out scouting places. Incidentally many people on this site have given generous assistance in that regard - you know who you are, take a bow and thank you.
Many of the sites I find are beyond the range of the ordinary road bike (road biker?) and are not suitable for the photo rally.
This is one, about 2K up a muddy lane near Ballingarry in Limerick.
SE of the village the two signs will bring you to the famine memorial.
There are a few tracks running about up there, not as good as Slieve Felim but if you are in the area it's worth a look.

Sure, isn't that why we were gonna talk about a GSer version :augie

I havn't even had time to even think about it lately but things are quietening down - only about 4 definite weekends left this year :eek - so maybe we can see about getting something organised over the winter :nenau

If any of youse have anything photogenic - a plaque, monument, ruin, etc - that's up a track or across a field (subject to access, of course) let me know :thumb2

You will find it difficult to sustain an "off road" photo rally as the available menu of places or sites is limited. Id be happy to post the odd GS find here but organising a parallel photo rally is another horse of a different kettle of fish.

I agree & that's partly why I asked for suggestions. I'd gladly take ruined cars & other stuff like that ;)

Great, thanks :thumb2

Probably a result of me not explaining myself properly :( (thought I'd said it in the previous thread) but I've no intention of organising something along the lines of the Photo Rally ie it's not going to be over a set timeframe, nor is it gonna be annual. As it is I enjoy taking little detours to find some of each years PR locations but I can't get the time to do the whole thing in a timely fashion so organising a parallel one is just not gonna happen.

What I had in mind (& from my above comment I can see where I might have misled you) is a 'database' of off-road photo locations around this island which could be used in a number of ways -
A GSer run is organised in a particular area & the info is used to string a bit of off-road together with the added bonus of a 'target' when you get there.

The other application would be if one of us is on a spin to an area not usually frequented we have access to information about where there's a bit of off-road with a focal point which could later be used in a ride report - "look where I got to when I was out last weekend" kinda thing. This could also have benefits for visiting GSers obviously.

If the database was made a sticky or included in Tuneds 'Ireland' thread it would give people an idea of where there are some tracks, with the potential for some personal exploring while there, without asking guys to post tracklogs of off-road routes which would only encourage increased (& possibly over-) use of said tracks. It would just be a couple of bikes from time to time.

It might also give us an excuse to go out & play on quiet w/e's. "I've got to go out on the bike & research some locations for the guys Darling. I'll do the grass when I get back" :augie

Hopefully that explains it a bit better ;)

Jockser, a possible variation on the photography would be geocaching
if GSers could set up caches in a GS style location, such as Slieve Felim, and post them here. Finds could be located and added too.
Now you need to find a few bodies willingly to make a start and maintain the caches.

My remarks were akin to thinking aloud to myself; I have no time for taking on any parallel effort but will cooperate with whoever might, by logging whatever off road sites I happen upon.
You have always explained yourself well and I have a reasonably clear idea of your perspective or context.
From my perspective being involved organisationally with two parallel events would be over stretching; but I would informally assist or even encourage - as you do me - in whatever way I could.
I have no bother with someone else doing a parallel or related event. :thumb2
Keep up the good work. :beerjug:

Not a bad idea Nud1e :thumb2
Daithi was talking about geocaching recently in another context but I know very little about the minutiae of it. I'll have to have a read through the site.

Which is more than I do :augie But I did want to avoid the 'stepping on toes' thingy.

Grand job :thumb2 I know there's a few others out there who'd have suitable locations too but I might need to exert more pressure before they release them ;)
