The Report - If you can call it that....

We left home on Friday morning and headed north on the dreary M6 stopped for a brew and a splash of juice at Tebay then continued north to The Lochy (G.C.'s place) where we'd arranged to meet Shelagh, our pal from Skye, who happen to be heading away from Skye on the very day we were heading to Skye :augie Anyway G.C. wasn't home but we enjoyed a decent lunch and continued with our journey to the start on Skye. We've been to Skye on numerous occasions but never on the Glenelg - Kylerhea Ferry so we decided to have a look. It was well worth the extra time to enjoy the fantastic views on the way to the boat from the A87. The guys manning the ferry gave us a warm welcome which helped make this the nicest way to get on to Skye. Off the ferry and on to our B&B Braeholm which turned out to be a great place, modern, clean, nice people and a fantastic breakfast. Dinner was had at The Dunollie which wasn't bad but the portions were a little too nouveau cuisine for my tastes, then following a couple of beers it was off to bed ready for the rally proper to start in the morning.

We were at the garage in Broadford, our starting point, at the allotted time of 10 am and off we set. There's not a lot to be said about the ride other than we managed to get everything done as we needed to apart from the only receipt I said I'd get - Ho Hum - filled up with fuel at the Oban checkpoint which is north of the town, paid cash and promptly set off for out overnight stop in Tarbert only to remember that I'd forgotten to get the all important receipt. Needless to say we had to turn round and head back to get our proof..... Eventually we arrived in Tarbert to find no one home at the B&B so off we went for dinner at Anchor Hotel which was fantastic as ever - Mussels to start followed by scallops in garlic butter - By this time we'd managed to get hold of the B&B so after dinner we rode round the corner parked up and went to bed.

Up at 7 for our reluctantly provided 7.30 breakfast then off to collect the last the receipts. We arrived at The Suie Lodge around 10.30, handed in our control cards & receipts and claimed our awards for the Highlander and distance challenges. We had a brew and a glance at the rear tyre, which although low still had signs of tread, then set off for home. We got as far as Annandale Services and pulled in for a brew and a further look at the rear tyre which in the space of just over 100 miles had lost all signs of tread and started to split!! We limped the rest of the way home, another 180 miles, but arrived in one piece.

1,409 miles were covered door to door and I learned that a rear Tourance will go from 3mm (measured) of tread to bald as a coot in that mileage!

Looks like a good trip, the sun is out today for a change.
Sorry I missed you, I was at the Inn.

The links didn't work - too many http's - the fixed versions.

Anchor Hotel

We had a weekend at the Anchor at Tarbert last year .............. but it was the "NCHOR HOTEL"

It was a bit tired then, although the food was pretty good. It is converted from the old cinema.

Not sure if I would recommend it :nenau

Ooh - nice pics, by the way :thumb2

I wouldn't dream of staying at the hotel, the rooms are small, expensive (compared to elsewhere in the village) and as you say tired. Far better to stay in one of the many great local B&B's Dunivaig or Springside to name the best two I've found (couldn't get in to either of these this weekend) and eat in The Anchor. The hotel has new owners from earlier this year so the rooms may be perked up but my preference would still be a B&B.
