Anyone else doing the National Rally this weekend ?

I am having a go for the first time - looks like I have picked a good one for the weather :D

Rich.

Yep - I'll be doing it. Done it every year since 1993 except the last 2 (Couldn't ride last year and had to drop out and the previous year was cancelled). Haven't quite decided to do a Special Gold or a gentler Silver - I've got routes for both so will probably decide at the last minute.

The trick is in the planning. Get the routes sorted (I go for fun ones during the day and simple ones overnight).

Take it gently, there's plenty of time (barring breakdowns) - that way you won't be so knackered come 4am. :)

The BIG tip is Be very careful going home after the rally if you've done the full thing. Stop often even if you don't think you need to, make sure all your helmet vents are open, coffee is good. The issue is the pressure is off, you've been up for over 24 hours - it is easy to feel dozy. DAMHIK.

Have fun. I love it especially the time from when it gets light to 7am - nothing around except suicidal rabbits, the air is fresh, dawn of another day. It doesn't get better than that.

Thanks for that,

I have gone for the full on Platinum:blast, I am lucky enough to have the Weaver mobile tanning unit lights fitted to the GS so visibility shouldnt be too much of an issue but definitely plenty of stops for coffee etc !

Good tip about after the rally also.

Cheers,

Rich.
