Nav IV

Dealer says I need a software update for my existing Nav IV to work with the new 1200 i.e. the wheelie thing on the left bar. Is that correct?

My software is v4.80 and I can't find anything newer!

Has anyone just transferred their Nav IV to the new bike?

My nag 4 was 3 years old and didn't work with the wheelie thing either.

Garmin have an update to the firmware on their website. Takes about 5 mins and works fine afterwards.

Search Garmin Express and download updater.

Simples.

Mine was hooked to the Mac today and upgraded to 4.9. Something about me being a member of C.U.N.T.S needed to be displayed before every journey.

(I'm serious about 4.9 being the latest firmware)

Picking up a grey TE on 18th but most of my accessories, luggage, spots, engine bars etc are on back order. You'd have thought BMW could do better!

My System 6 helmet with BMW Communications System bluetooth does not work correctly with the wheelie thing. I.e. no volume control.

Contacted Vines - Helmet requires a software update at dealer.

Looks like the K1600 riders have already been thru' this loop.

I got the nav iv last week, also for a grey te. I've got to say though, the integration with the wheel control is pretty weak, all the wheel does is volume, it doesnt do anything obvious like zooming in or out. And it seems nuts to me that you can't alter the brightness on the nav iv.

Altogether a waste of £500. I think my old 550's a better device.

Hang on, it does zoom and change page. Are you pushing the wheel left or right to scroll through the capability? Roll the wheel as well to scroll on chosen page.

The ability to zoom is the most practical ability when touring, keeping hands on the bars.

Does anyone know what the sat nav software update on the running in service involves? Someone on here, I think, got an update by BMW for the nav IV when the bike went in for the first service, so what did the update change?

what can it do and how is it best used?,, those of you with a NavIV (upgraded) please enlighten me as I think its a great concept when I tried
one at the bike show but nav had no signal and guy on stand was clueless,,

I am in debate with myself as to wether its worth buying a Nav IV or just ditching the mount and getting a new tom tom??
but Id rather have the intergarted system,,(I think)

My Nag iV is 3 years old and I had to update the firmware from the Garmin site using express before the wheelie thing would work with it.

Vines have just upgraded the firmware in my System 6 helmet so I can change the volume using the wheel. System 6 becomes incredibly uncomfortable for me after about 1 hour. I might see if there's anyway I could transfer the bluetooth guts to my Tour X3 using a dremel and lots of patience.

Would keep me out the pub for a couple of nights and I could happily go to sleep in my Arai.

Someone definitely said a software update was made to the wheel, to unlock more features. I'll keep searching.

Same as me debating myself,always used the TT and happy about it,But with the wheel blabla I took the plunge and bought a Bmw satnav 4,on saturday.
Spent all weekend to learn the new navigator,I find the learing curve to be very steep.Mapsorce,Basecamp,Poi loader,Garmin express,if Garmin could do as TT I would have had a better weekend.
Had a chat with Garmin support this morning,friendly people that sent me a couple of shortcuts which will hopefully get me on the right track.
Bmw/garmin satnav will probably be ok but very learning intensiv,must admit I almost took the bmw docking station and the wheel off the bike on Sunday,was just about going to ditch the navigator in the toilet.
Feel better today after taking to Garmin support,will give it a weeks try before I change back to TT.
