does the garmin 660 fit in and power up with the standard wc BMW mount without modification?
I know the 'wheel' won't operate it

Yes it fits in fine. But the BMW mount does block the audio out from the 660 unit.

Anyone cut away that bit of plastic on the BMW mount to get at the audio output socket to use the Zumo 660 with direct cable to helmet speakers?

If you have a zumo 660 I would assume you have its mount? Why not just swap them, no problems with sound at all then.

Especially as the BMW bit looks like it is added to an original garmin mount :nenau

+1.
I could do to know this too, I'm moving the 660 from my Explorer, my BMW dealer told that my 660 will work as normal with the LC mount but without the wheel control. He didn't mention that I would lose the audio which I feel is essential when driving in bright sunlight as the zumo screen can be a bit difficult to read.

Can this be done and keep the key lock anti theft system? If so I'll get my tool kit right away.

Don't know but it looked possible, if any thing like the nav 4 cradle there are 4 screws holding the two together :nenau All I know is anything is possible if you try hard enough...

Come on chaps... It's a very simple swap over!

Remover the BMW bed of nails... 4 screws, disconnect the can bus connector.

Swap ejector pushes.

Mount the 660 bed of nails and route cables... You can take power from the 12v outlet if you want power only from the bus or, straight off the battery.

I added a short extension 3.5mm audio lead, this not only extends the audio out so you can have it where you need it , but the original switches the audio back to the speaker on the nav when disconnected.

Simples!

So you are saying that the locking facilities of the WC mount can be swapped over to the Garmin standard mount? If that is correct could be an interesting aftermarket swap, instead of the touratech offering.

Absofuckinglutely !:thumb

I have posted this a few times before.

The wiring harness and cradle that comes with the Zumo has a 2.5mm mic jack, audio out 3.5mm, mini usb, and power -ive and +ive.

The Garmin cradle that's got the above connections will bolt straight into the BMW Zumo mount.

I removed the BMW nav harness, cut the plug off that's got the -ive and +ive cables and soldered the Garmin cables to it.

I took the cradles apart and swapped over the pushy in levers. The BMW one is longer than the Garmin.

My Zumo is connected to my Autocom SPA. I can listen to music, chat to the pillion, make and receive phone calls via the Bluetooth on the Zumo.

See pics showing swapped pushy levers.

It is good to this initiative as the BMW Unit is a rip off and does not have the cradle and bike harness, the car kit and mount or the zip up case or the ram mounts and connections that the 660 has for £200 less!!!!

That's very interesting. Many thanks for that.
I think a garmin 660 is on the cards....
