ive used my 2610 andmapsource for a while now around my local area of yorkshire, lake district, peak district and not had many problems :)

but im relocating to suffolk and on my last few journeys down there for interviews and such the 2610 has taken me down some very tight small 'B' roads when i want to stick to the main 'A' roads :(

an example using mapsource is Haverhill,Suffolk to Bocking,Essex. i want to keep to the A1017 main road and its taking me down the small 'B' roads

ive tried adjusting the speeds for roads in properties, putting the slider all the way to prefer main roads, have tried shortest and quickest routing, but have had no joy at all in following A1017.

even when i do the 'insert route section' i have to do this aout 5-10times to get it to follow the A1017.

microsoft autoroute has no problem directing me down the A1017 when i set the route preference sliders

so can any mapsource and 2610 gurus help me please :)

this is what i get

MAPSOURCE 'v' M/S AUTOROUTE

The only thing I can think of is that in the Custom Route Preferences you can preference the machine uses in determining the type of road used in the route.
You could try increasing the preference of Major & Medium and reducing(avoid) the minor. It's page 51 in the owners manual if you have one to refer to - Any help?

the only way i can get it to go the way i want, which i have just tried and it worked, is to add a via point somewhere between the start and end points and select fastest route,

so adding the small village of 'Sible Hedingham' as i via point works ok, but anything further north on the route and it puts me back on the small 'B' road

adding via point works in mapsource and on the 2610,

its still not an ideal solution, as i dont carry my laptop with mapsource on, around with me. i might just have to keep a map of the area handy when im out and about,

so i can see all the little villages along the main road i want to go down and put them as via points,

but if im gonna do that i might as well just use a map for the full journey:D

anyone else got any ideas that might work, without adding via points.

HI There
Living in the area I know these roads quite well, the Mapsource route using the B1057 then B1053 is only 18.1 miles, whilst the A1017 route is 19.5 miles, additionally the A1017 is littered with 40 and 30 speed restrictions whilst the other route has very few, even without using Mapsource I would elect for the B1057 and B1053 as the fastest and shortest route (and great biking road). Maybe Mapsource is a little more intelligent than Autoroute and takes the speed restrictions into account when calculating "fastest" route? Just an Idea

thanks bruce, im gonna be doing that route to work everyday when i get down there.
and i just wanted to see if i could figure out how to make the 2610 use the sligtly wider roads if i needed to get anywhere :D
the 1017 just seemed a better way to go in the car.
thanks for the help and advice on the route, i might give it a try a few times and see which of the 2 routes are better :thumb2
