Ive both City Navigator V5 and V8, I can get all of a proposed European trip on my 128mb card if I use V5 but only half if I use V8.

Anyone know if theres a major difference between the versions ?

It'll all be in the detail & POI...................

Select V5 in Mapsource and then zoom in somewhere, then change to V8 and see the difference.

When I had my Garmin V, with v5 I could get London and most of the South of England on M4 southwards, with v6 I could only get London on....................

I'd guess that the main roads wont have changed that much, but the village / town details will be much improved. If you're feeling brave work out where the waypoints are in V8 eg hotels and then use V5. The last bit on the road won't be exact but at least you'll know where to go, if that makes sense.

The other, better, option IMHO is to buy one of the 256 mb cards on fleabay. That way you'll probably get to whatever port on the 128, and use the 256 on the other side of the channel.

What unit are you using? If its a SPIII then the maximum card size I think you can get is a 256MB. If its a 2610, then upgrade to a 2GB SANDISK for about £55. :thumb

Only about 4 year's worth of data. But, the political borders and topographical features (coastlines, rivers, etc.) have not changed much at all.

It all depends on where you plan to go: Two examples:

- Sweden: V5 will work OK. (But V8 is better.)

- Norway: V5 has zero coverage while V8 has 100% coverage.

Find out for yourself by doing as Jon suggests; Select V5 in Mapsource and then zoom in somewhere, then change to V8 and see the difference.

Or even better; calculate your route with V8, duplicate it and recalculate the copy with V5. Now you have booth routes on top of each other on the screen. One good (V8=blue) and one not so good (V5=yellow).
