Hi

Not sure where to ask this question but here goes!

I have a new contract where, on a Monday I would like to park in an NCP city centre car park (I could park for free on the road but the multi story is only £2.50 a day which I can claim back and I figure it may be more secure).

Does anyone know how they differentiate between bikes and cars, as when you pull up to the barrier a ticket is issued as per car: what happens on the way out that means that I will only pay £2.50 and not £18 (or whatever) that is charged for a car.

Strange question I know but there is no detailed information on NCP website just the price.

Grateful for info - thanks

Dunno about Lincoln but the one I use in Cambridge is free for bikes. You just ride out on the pavement. First time I did it I kept thinking someone was going to jump out and stop me, but upon checking with the car park attendant it's normal practice there.

Car parks

If you can park bikes here there's probably a small area with it's own bike sized entrance at ground level no need to go through machine that's the norm around here.

The only Council run car park with dedicated bike parking is Lucy Tower car park next to the cinema but is currently closed for repair. This will be causing some pressure on parking in Lincoln for 20 weeks!

Lucy Tower (when open) chrges £2 a day for bikes and is patrolled.

I have never used NCP for bike but according to the web they can charge same price as cars in some car parks.

Regional is fine for locals but info like this is handy for anyone. But the thread would be better in beak chat

Hi

The car park in question is in Sheffield (it's a 10 min walk to the one in Lincoln :D).

I didn't want to contact NCP as they want your email address and fed up with being bombarded.

There is no ground floor separate section.

Got caught in a freezing blizzard today so may well get the train in the morning anyway . Will try to check it out in person.

Thanks for replies. :aidan

Not puttuing the city :blast

This belongs in 1200 section

I use an NCP in London sometimes and you have to take your ticket to the machine, press the intercom button which connects you to a call centre. They then ask you to prove you are a motorcyclist - they use the CCTV camera above the machine to check if you have a helmet and look like a biker :blast

They then send a signal to the machine to charge you the motorbike rate instead of the car rate.

I once had to walk all the way to my bike to get my helmet cause despite being dressed head to toe in my bike gear, the guy didn't believe me.

I alway thought it would be a good idea to keep an old helmet in the boot of my car to save myself money on car parking. But of course that would be dishonest :blagblah

The barriers go all the way across so you cannot ride around them, plus they have CCTV everywhere.

Thanks for all replies.

Checked it out Monday. There is a different entrance with a designated bike parking area. You take a ticket (or token in this case) and park, then go to the office when your leaving and pay there.

I found a good free place to park under shelter with a metal bar to chain to. It's not official but there are plenty of bikes parked in the vicinity and it's a busy thoroughfare by the bus station so safe - in fact there was a fireblade parked next to me all day with just a disc lock.
