Hi, just bought a fantastic Rukka armatech jacket which is just perfect exept for the cold wind that gets into the helmet because the top of the jacket doen't tuck up into the helmet. In very heavy/prolonged rain could be a problem too. Can any one reccomend a good waterproof neck warmer that can bridge the gap between the jacket and helmet?
Mark.

The best thing I've found for the gap between the tip of the jacket and your neck is a Buff (http://www.buff.es/default.cfm?idioma=3) available for about £12 from most bike, mountain or cycle shops. Warm enough in winter but also comfortable enough to wear to stop insects in summer. I have half a dozen and wear one every day.

Not at all waterproof, but I don't think you'll get enough water in at the neck for that to matter. The small amount that gets into that gap will be soaked up by the Buff and heat from your neck gets rid of it quickly. I rode for 150 rainsoaked miles in my summer jacket with a Buff on the only really rainy day of last summer. When I stopped at the end there was a bit of dampness in the Buff and none down the inside of my jacket. My wallet on the other hand, which I put in the outside pocket of a jacket with a zip in waterproof lining, was wet enough for me to have to dry my money out with kitchen towel and a radiator :(

Like trotsky says.. swear by Buffs... got about half a dozen, wear them daily (almost) :thumb

Buffs are great, I don't like the constriction of fleece neck warmers. Only problem I have with them is I loose them, four last year. Just bought another off ebay for £9 delivered. A nice leopard skin pattern :D

I have the same jacket. Made a neck warmer from the arm of an old fleece - toasty - washed in some tech-wax - Bob's yer uncle etc. This time of year I wear an Oxford Coolmax balaclaca for commuting, which is a great bit of kit too - covers the neck. I also have one of their coldweather ones with windstopper at the neck and chest - great, but too warm for most days.

For round town rain riding, I have a helmet skirt, which is top, but makes the helmet do odd things at speed though!

Bryn, is there anywhere in leics you can buy these?

Hein Gericke (UK) Ltd
487 Aylestone Rd, Leicester, LE2 8TB
0116 283 8899

Or any outdoor shop (snow and rock, blacks, millets....they all do them)

My favourite buff is half fleece....it's got the normal buff material then a foot or so of thin fleece material...

Just to let you know I ended up with a Rukka windstopper one for £35 which is not cheap but is perfect. It just comes up over the chin and and tucks into the helmet all round. A lot warmer and less noise too.
