Need some advice

tyres

hi
all the write ups on the conti's come out tops ,not expensive tyres , i use them on 3 bikes ,conti sport attack on one ,road attack on the others .when the sport attacks wear out ,will put road attacks on , bit tight me when it comes to spend money on tyres . sporting tyres are great if you are doing track days and thrashing it . sport touring are a good choice for most ,commuting etc ,will warm quick and last well . another good choice for the gs are avon distanzia ,i have used these for a couple of years though the winter , mind you the tourances are good too. done a bit of experimenting with different types of tyre for a couple of years , price is a big consideration for me . did use cut rain slicks for a while wet or dry . best things ever , but wear really fast on dry days . that's because they are for the wet ,so only used that bike when wet .trying out some pilot 2's at the minute ,but when they have gone ,back to the conti's. £50 quids cheaper .
mileage for sport touring 4500 to 9000 miles
mileage for sport tyres 1200 to 3000 miles
anyone claiming that they get 5000 miles out a sport are not using them for what they are intended for and would benefit from a touring tyre.another thing with sport tyres are that they do not warm so quick so for stop start trips and few miles only they are not so good . the guy ghost rider used touring tyres for the mad runs he done ,so if he rides a bike and the tyres last well then they should be good for any of us. ride mag last year done a write up on tyres . can't remember the issue .but the conti's were a excellent choice.

...still makes me jump everytime i scrap(e?) me engine bars..lol

Sounds like your existing tyres are more than adequate Janie!

I seem to remember you saying that the you had lowered the bike, do you just have a low seat or has the suspension been lowered as well?

If not, :bow:bow:bow:bow

Metzeler Tourance's had them on my transalp..........i have no intention of ridin anywhere but on the road......so think i will try road attack...for a change.....:thumb2

So Janie... Which tyre did you go for and how did you get on... :nenau:nenau:nenau

Considering the Road Attack myself... so appreciate any comments... :thumb:thumb

Conti Trail Attacks

Battlewings excellent, Trail Attacks better, Trail Attack is just a version of the Road Attack but designed for the GS as I understand it. Bit more rubber than the Road Attack - new they have 4.5mm on the front and 7mm on the rear, mine have now done 3,500 miles and have 3mm and 5mm respectively. Better feel than Battlewings, plenty of grip both wet and dry.

Perhaps not relevant to the enquiry, but as a comparison, i run my GS12 on 17" ST wheels with Bridgestone 020's. I've just replaced both front and rear(the 2nd one i've had). The 1st rear lasted 3250 miles, the 2nd one 3500.The front has done 6750 and was not finished but there was not enough on it to make it worth running till shot.Had i been on a Budget,i could probably got another 5-600 miles or so. Tyre fitter thought mileage was about what he would have expected.
