Well.. She's home.. My new enduro..

Due to some finance issues (my old 5 series bmw throwing in the towel).. I had to cut back my bike budget...

I had lustings for a "original" airhead GS.. monty's bike had me drooling and trying to scrape fund together.. but alas the car issues foiled that one!

And then maybe either an africa twin or super tenere.. But again the prices were silly! 1989 africa twin no history - 1300 quid! and a couple of high milers went though ebay at about the 1k mark..

So... A friend of a friend knew of this bike.. it was on ebay.. And he knew its history/owner.. So.. I put an bid in and hey presto she's mine!

Picked her up this evening and rode the 100 miles home with no fuss... although my god is the seat like a plank!

I'm already plotting a plan to make a few changes.... But that will ahve to wait until my R80 "bitza GS" is finished and my money situation improves... For now I'm just going to ride her and enjoy! :D

me like

always liked them when you are thinking of selling it in a few months let me know if price is right:blagblah :blagblah:blagblah

I had one just like that too, far more entertaining and less top heavy than the Af Twin I had before that.

They're excellent bikes, their frailties (regulator, fuse holders, for example) are well documented and easily addressed.

There's a fantastic web 'list' that's very actve and offers masses of friendly advice, as well as organising annual get-toethers ('treffen') - it's in Portugal this year if you're interested.

If you want to join the list, just drop me a PM and I will direct you.

Enjoy it!

Yep, that's the list. A few list members have bikes of that kind of spec shown in your photo, if you think they look good you should hear them, the open-ish exhausts and the 900's dry clutch just make a fantastic racket....

VERY nice.

jackass dave - dont know if your intersted or not i have in my oft a workshop manual ,for a cagiva elefant750, exc condition £10 +p+P ...dave (factory workshop manual)

Thanks for the offer.. I actaully got one with the bike, so I'm all sorted... As for it being your old one.. No idea.. last owner had it for 10 years and it only has 30k kms on the clock.. Depends on when you sold yours!

robbo1200adv - Nice bike!! Is it the 750 or a 900?

It's a 750.. I'd have loved a 900 but tbh this one was in very good nick so I snapped it up.

Update.. I've been riding the bike now pretty much every day (occasional days off to ride my old Z1000).. and I still love it! It's not the quietest thing in the world.. engine rattles (god the valves are loud compared to my old GS/Z1000), whirrs and pops and the exhaust has to be heard in a tunnel! :D

:drool

Back before I could ride a bike (or even drive come to think of it) I used to say I would have one of those whilst watching the Paris-Dakar... Then I found out how tall they are :(

Lord Snooty - You didn't buy it off a bloke called Ian Whiting did you?

Think the guy I got it off was called Phil.. Near welyn garden city somewhere.... Nice guy.. just didn;t use the bike much (about 1000kms per year since he got it - even had mot's to prove!).

I'm just under 6ft tall.. and I have to "hop" a little to "get my leg over".. But I can get my feet down flat once sat on the bike so its not too bad.. about on par with a 1150GSa or the Tiger 900 I had for a while... It does feel a little tall when off road but hey better than than bottoming out!

:D
