Hello all,

I have just got a shiny new Samsung NC10 netbook which I'm really pleased with. The wi-fi works well but I thought I would see if I could connect to the internet via my mobile phone for when the there is no wi-fi available. I have got my netbook & phone connected via bluetooth and they connect to the internet via Orange GPRS, but only at 135kbps. In the pre-broadband dial-up days I would have been chuffed if I could have connected at that speed , particularly via a mobile phone, but it's slower than what I expected via GPRS. I'm fairly certain I'm in GPRS coverage, am I expecting too much?. Has anybody any experience in this area ?. Phone is a Nokia N95.

Cheers

John

GPRS is the slower of the mobile internet connections, I tend to compare it to a dial up connection in terms of the speeds that can be acheived by it.
For a more broadband like experience you need to live in a 3G coverage area

Have a look here for an idea of what the coverage is like where you live

I've got a Vodafone Mobile Dongle, which seeks out the fastest net connection available. GPRS is its 'last resort', defintely slower than 3G, or the other option. Can't remmber what that is, but I think it's faster than 3G.
