Neutral Light Switch/ Idle Switch

Never laid a spanner on my bike (GS1150) yet but now is the time. Anyone changed the Idle Switch. Apparently it needs the swinging arm taking off which involves heat. Any tips for the un initiated.

For the amount of heat ... and a cautionary tail.

And it is NOT an idle switch, but a neutral light switch ... combined with the gear indicator switch ... usually full of water ...

BMW use Loctite 2701 to secure the pivot bearings. This turns back to liquid at 250°C so you need a lot more heat than you actually think you do. Lots of heat and a long extension bar and you shouldn't have any real problems - Just make sure you have access to a 160Nm torque wrench for putting everything back together.
