Hi Mark
I'm in the process of doing exactly this at the moment here in Blighty!

I am following the same procedure I did with my last one 3 years ago and that ran supebly over that time, stopped using oil at 20,000 and still running perfectly at 44,000 when traded for this one.

Don't ride on Motorways for the first 1,000 miles. Plenty of gear changing up and down the box. Keep it under 5,000 revs for the first 400 or so and then increase the speeds / revs gently and sympathetically until the 600 service. Continue to remember to be a bit gentle until the 1,000 mark and she'll do you proud for years!

ENJOY mate!!

Sherpa ;)

Don't be too gentle with her

I was sooo careful when running in my first GS & even at 20k miles it still used loads of oil & vibrated. Next one I ran in in a much more "spirited" manner, similar to Sherpa's regimen above - by the 6k service it had virtualy stopped using any oil & was much smoother. My latest 05 1150 GSA has only got about 8 k miles on yet, is using a bit of oil (I litre / 6k miles) but is now really smoothing out. Not go far wrong with a bit of spirited riding, just don't let the engine labour.

Oh & Sherps - get some lights on that new bike or you'll never see the sheep coming out of the shadows :D :D

Ride it like you stole it.........straight out the box..... :thumb

The bikes with the fewest problems are the demo bikes......accordin to my mate who works for a dealer.... ;)
