1) Take that spade off the rear wheel
3) Put engine protection bars on (before it's too late)
3) See RobC's post
4) Have a look at RobC's post above
5) See previous post.

Fully agree with RobC and the Joker.

Concerning the engine bars, take a really good look at the OE BM stuff before buying from after market. I think they are so much better designed and made in good quality materials. Others may not agree, but look at the recent posts and see how those H&B thingies do not even fit together.

If you have less than size 12 hands rotate the right control switches up a little to make indicator cancelling easier.

Consider higher/lower seat to suit your stature and use.

Fit a sheet of 2-3mm rubber as a rear mudguard to keep the muck off you and the bike.

Drill the fuel filler neck to avoid being drowned in petrol and aid tank brimming. Some clever guy posted this and you can search it.

Do the yoga course down at the local car wash. You will then be both calm and prepared for your daily routine outside our brief summer.

Hi everyone,

I had my R1200 GS for about a month now and loving it.

Had to take it to BMW Battersea today for a recall job (something to do with rear brakes) and while at it, getting a new top box and panniers.

I asked the sales lady at the parts department there, and she hasn't heard about the apparent problems with the top box and BMW not selling it anymore.

I said, I will buy it anyway and if there is a recall you can give me a new one *GRIN*.

Mine is a Blue one with Gray Panels and Black seat.

Omer.

Joker,
by "spade" do you refer to the mud guard thingy or the rack and hand rail?

All,
Does removal of the mug guard thingy carry much support here?

I like the appearance of the bike presented in the brochure (apart from the Yellow!), no hand rail and no spade.

I recall someone saying the mudguard is a TUV requirement and actually detrimental to the rider and bike where protection from road crud is concerned??

Yup, that's the piece - it looks like you could dig a hole with it :D

Yes, I think it's there due to the law - I assume that you have to have more than 50 of the height of the wheel covered by a mud-flapthingee in Germany (as officially in Sweden and Finland {my info might be a bit outdated})

When my Laydee gets her new bike, I'll take the pilliion seat off and the luggage rack too...

:beerjug:

So if I removed mine (when I get it!) ould the bike then be illegal in Germany?

Or as it's UK registered would i be ok?

He wondered out loud....

Suggest you crank up the rear shock preload, right from the get-go. And start on the lowest front preload until the shock beds in.

Thanks for the comments guys. Can anyone help with the following -

1. Can anyone confirm the rumour that BMW have withdrawn the top box due to problems wit them "falling off"? I have orderd a top box with mine.

2. Has anyone tried fitting the H&P crash bars with the touratech head protectors?

3. Anone got the definitive answer to " Do we get a tool kit these days?"
